After a period of two and a half years, Cyberpunk 2077 has achieved a "very positive" ranking among Steam user reviews. Initially, the game received mixed reviews based on the hardware that PC gamers were using. However, consistent updates have enhanced the quality of Cyberpunk 2077, resulting in more positive feedback from Steam users.
While the console version initially faced some technical issues, which were subsequently resolved, Cyberpunk 2077 remained fairly playable on PC from the beginning. In response to the initial controversy, CD Projekt Red demonstrated a committed effort to fix and improve the game by releasing six consecutive months of patches that addressed various bugs. As CD Projekt Red's planned updates improved the game on other platforms, Steam players also benefited, resulting in an overall optimal performance of the game as it stands today.
After receiving 546,333 user reviews, Cyberpunk 2077 has achieved a Steam very positive ranking, leaving its "mostly positive" days in the past. Previously, despite receiving negative reviews from PC gamers, the ranking remained unchanged for 2.5 years, without considering the patches that were released. Marcin Momot, the Global Community Director of CD Projekt Red, expressed gratitude towards the Cyberpunk 2077 Steam audience for acknowledging the team's hard work in a tweet.
Cyberpunk 2077 was pulled from PlayStation's shop due to its performance in the early days, resulting in fewer negative reviews compared to other platforms. However, the game remained listed on Steam and other PC storefronts due to its better performance. Xbox also kept it available for Xbox One X owners and early Xbox Series X/S adopters. In June 2021, the game was reinstated on the PlayStation Store, following improvements recognized by user reviewers. The upcoming release of the Phantom Liberty DLC is expected to further enhance the game's popularity among Cyberpunk 2077 players on different platforms.
One possible reason for the abundance of positive reviews on Steam could be the frequent price reductions offered for Cyberpunk 2077, particularly during seasonal sales. While the game has received a "very positive" rating on Steam, it still requires a significant number of positive reviews to achieve an overwhelmingly positive status. The Metacritic user score for Cyberpunk 2077 currently stands at "mixed" with a rating of seven out of ten based on 33,421 ratings.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
