CD Projekt Red has announced that some of the new features included in the upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 will also be available in the main game, which may sway those who are on the fence about purchasing the expansion. While the recent Xbox Games Showcase generated a lot of buzz around Bethesda's Starfield, fans of CDPR's dystopian sci-fi RPG were also eagerly awaiting news about the new content. Despite its rocky start, Cyberpunk 2077 has become renowned for its extensive open-world and attention to detail, and has since undergone several necessary updates and patches to improve the overall experience. As a result, many fans are excited for the upcoming expansion.
Those who opt out of purchasing the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC need not fret as there are still benefits to be had in the base game. In anticipation of Phantom Liberty, the development team has been reworking key main systems, such as AI, skill trees, and vehicle combat. Creative director Pawel Sasko assures that some of these improvements will be brought over to the main game, ensuring that the essential systems remain intact. Recently, the DLC's release date was announced for September 26 and a new trailer revealed the return of Johnny Silverhand and the addition of Solomon Reed, portrayed by Idris Elba. Fans were elated when Keanu Reeves introduced the teaser during the Xbox Games Showcase, announcing the release date of the DLC.
Additionally, CDPR has announced that they plan to begin early development on the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 in 2024. While this means that fans will likely have to wait a few years for the release, it's clear that the studio has their hands full with other projects, including a new Witcher saga and a remake of the first Witcher game. With all of these projects in the works, it's safe to say that the Polish development team will be busy for quite some time. Fans can look forward to the launch of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty on September 26, 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
