First introduced in arcades in 1997, Mortal Kombat 4 introduced several iconic characters to the franchise. Among them were Quan Chi, a wicked sorcerer and antagonist, and Fujin, the god of wind and a trusted ally of Raiden. Kai, a Shaolin monk with a strong connection to Liu Kang, also made his debut in Mortal Kombat 4. However, Kai only appeared once more as a playable character in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, released in 2006.
