Baldur's Gate 3, in its Early Access release, is already a massive game. Over the past three years, fans have been playing the incomplete first act of the game. Despite the updates, the initial locations to explore in BG3 have remained the same.
While the game's storyline should guide players, it can be challenging to find specific locations within the game. The first task for players is to escape the Mind Flayer's ship during the tutorial sequence. After that, the game world opens up. By prioritizing these specific locations, players will have the opportunity to fully experience everything that Baldur's Gate 3 has to offer.
Escape The Nautiloid & Beat The Tutorial
Upon defeating the initial boss in Baldur's Gate 3 - the impressively intricate character creator - and viewing the opening cutscenes, players will find themselves aboard The Nautiloid, a vessel controlled by a Mind Flayer. This particular area of the game serves as a tutorial to familiarize players with the basics of BG3, although navigating it can be slightly perplexing.
To exit the starting area, make your way towards the door made of flesh located across from where your character regained consciousness. Inside, there is a spacious room that is worth exploring, with an exit on the opposite side. Proceed down this exterior path to encounter Lae'Zel, engage in a battle with a group of imps, and come across Shadowheart, who is ensnared within a Mind Flayer pod. From the penultimate room, there are two paths to choose from: one leads to a body holding the key to Shadowheart's pod, while the other leads to the final confrontation.
Gain Party Members On The Sword Coast
After freeing Shadowheart, proceed to the opposite side of the room from her pod and continue until you reach the end. During the final encounter, your Mind Flayer captor instructs you to "connect the transponders". However, the only task required in this combat is to reach the other end of the room and interact with the neural transponders. Prioritize defeating enemies that target your party members and utilize Dash frequently to expedite your journey to the opposite side.
After escaping from the Nautiloid, players are suddenly transported to an unfamiliar location - a beach on the Sword Coast. To proceed, it is advisable to bypass the nearby wreckage and continue along the coastline. As you explore, you will come across the lifeless bodies of the Mangled Fishermen and once again encounter Shadowheart. If you had previously released her from the ship, she will be found lying down on the beach. Alternatively, if you managed to evade her pod, she can be found further ahead, frantically banging on a door.
Shadowheart, a Trickery Cleric, is not the sole companion available in this starting region. However, she is the initial one that players can come across prior to encountering (or evading) a group of Intellect Devourers. On the opposite side of the Intellect Devourer battle, players can encounter the Rogue Astarion, who initially tries to attack the player but soon realizes that they both bear a Tadpole within their minds.
After engaging with the Waypoint beyond the wreckage, Gale, a Wizard, emerges.
In close proximity to Gale, the Fighter Lae'Zel is situated, suspended in a cage around the corner. Below her, a group of indecisive Tieflings contemplate whether or not to end her life.
A bit further down the path, towards the Druid Grove, players will find the Warlock Wyll as he joins in the battle to defend the front gate from goblin raiders.
Defeat Intellect Devourers In The Crashed Ship
Upon awakening and incorporating Shadowheart into your group, it is highly advisable to proceed towards the wreckage of the Mind Flayer's vessel as the next logical step. Within the vicinity, a handful of surviving Intellect Devourers can be found, albeit in a severely injured state. Initially, a pair of these creatures emerge in a small glade just outside the confines of the ship, rendering them susceptible to an unexpected assault. However, it is crucial to act swiftly, as any delay would result in their retreat inside the vessel to regroup with their fellow Intellect Devourers.
After eliminating all of them, scavenge their remains (along with the corpses of the Mind Flayers in close proximity) and the Treasure Chest positioned on a raised platform. Once the area is secure, proceed further into the early stages of Baldurs Gate 3 to come across additional allies nearby and numerous interconnected storylines to explore.
Head To The Druid's Grove (But Prepare For A Fight)
After exploring the vicinity of the crash site, players will eventually come across a tense altercation between a camp of Tieflings and humans and a group of goblins, on the brink of breaking out into a fight. The distant echoes of their shouts indicate that you are heading in the right direction. Once the cutscene ensues and combat commences, players can actively join in to eliminate the assailants and unlock entry to the Druid Grove.
The Druid's Grove is a bustling center of activity and additional content, offering various opportunities to advance the core storyline by ridding players of the Tadpoles in their brains. While exploring the Druid's Grove, do make a point to engage in conversation with Auntie Ethel, who requests a meeting at her cabin to provide a cure. Likewise, seek out Zorru to make progress in Lae'Zel's quest, and either Wyll or Nettie for guidance towards the Goblin Camp where the Druid Halsin awaits.
Start Looking For A Cure To The Tadpoles
The primary goal in Baldur's Gate 3 is to rid your character's brain of the Tadpole that was implanted during the opening cinematic. There are numerous avenues to explore in search of a solution, such as seeking out a Healer like the Druid Halsin or Auntie Ethel, visiting a Githyanki Creche for purification, or experimenting with various other methods to combat this parasitic entity.
Baldur's Gate 3 revolves around player freedom and the ability to pursue goals in any desired manner. An intriguing aspect in the Early Access version is the Tadpole questlines, where players grapple with the decision to either remove the parasite and lose an eye or maintain the supposed paradise it offers. By engaging in conversations with NPCs, completing companion quests, and carefully selecting dialogue options, players can naturally discover a method to remove the Tadpoles in Baldur's Gate 3. The full release of Baldur's Gate 3 is scheduled for August 3, 2023, on PC, and September 6, 2023, on PlayStation 5.
