Destiny 2 composer hints at Paul McCartney track's resurgence in The Final Shape expansion, affirming Bungie's unwavering commitment to continuous advancement.Scheduled for August, the Destiny 2 Showcase Event by Bungie aims to offer enthusiasts a glimpse into the forthcoming prospects of this beloved multiplayer phenomenon.
In a recent Instagram post, a composer for Destiny 2 has hinted at the inclusion of music by Sir Paul McCartney in the upcoming expansion called The Final Shape. This potential inclusion could tie together elements from the game's past and present. Bungie, the studio behind Destiny 2, is constantly striving to stay ahead in terms of development, with a steady flow of content and updates, including seasons that span over several months. Planning for seasons and major updates typically occurs weeks, if not months, in advance, while longer-form content like The Final Shape expansion is in development for an even longer period. Fortunately, gamers will get a glimpse of Bungie's hard work in August, as the studio plans to showcase what's in store for this highly popular online game during a Destiny 2 Showcase Event.
The Final Shape is considered the closing act of the Destiny 2 Light and Darkness saga, sparking discussions about the game's future and the potential direction Bungie may take. While Bungie may provide some information in August, fans are actively searching for clues, even coming across accidental discoveries like a short gameplay clip hinting at Destiny 2's third darkness subclass. Recently, fans found an Instagram post by Ella Feingold, one of Bungie's music orchestrators, which may have revealed a subtle detail about the upcoming expansion. The post, discovered by a member of the Destiny Music Discord server named AtlyxMusic, showcases a picture of sheet music with parts whited out, except for the name of Sir Paul McCartney. Upon closer examination, another name can be seen, M. O'Donnell, who is Bungie's longtime Audio Director and worked with McCartney on the first Destiny to create a music suite called Music of the Spheres.
Martin O'Donnell, the renowned composer, was controversially terminated by Bungie in 2014, leading to a prolonged legal dispute that was eventually resolved. A composition known as "Music of the Sphere's" remained unreleased until it was leaked and officially unveiled in 2018. While an Instagram post featuring sheet music does not provide explicit confirmation, speculation has arisen on Reddit that O'Donnell, along with McCartney, may be working on a revival of the original title track, "Hope for the Future," to create a cohesive connection in The Final Shape. At the very least, players may have the opportunity to hear elements of the familiar melody.
Aside from the musical aspects, The Final Shape aims to tie up loose ends in the game's narrative, while also introducing new enigmas. The initial teaser depicted the unexpected return of Cayde-6, the former Hunter Vanguard who met his demise during the Forsaken expansion of Destiny 2 some years ago.
Destiny 2 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
