Destiny 2 fans have been raving about Season of the Deep, finding it much more enjoyable compared to the mixed reception of Lightfall. The storyline is captivating, leaving fans eager to discover the fate of Sloane as she falls victim to the corrupting influence of the Taken. Additionally, the latest cinematic offers valuable insight into The Witness and their objectives. While the PlayStation crossover cosmetics may be on the pricier side, they are undeniably breathtaking. Most importantly, the gameplay within Season of the Deep is exceptional.
Players are treated to a variety of stunning vistas as they battle enemies on Titan's rigs during Salvage missions or explore the planet's vast ocean during Deep Dives. These sights are either nostalgic for long-time players or completely new and exciting for newcomers. During their downtime, players can also engage in a fun new fishing activity, which seamlessly integrates with the season's theme through the cosmetics and weapons offered by Bungie. Ultimately, it is the underwater theme that sets Season of the Deep apart and Bungie should continue to boldly explore new directions in future Destiny 2 seasons, such as taking Guardians to the skies.
Destiny 2’s Next Season Should Go Full Tears of the Kingdom
With little information available about the upcoming Season in Destiny 2, anticipation is high for potential significant developments in the game's storyline, particularly with The Final Shape looming closer. However, from a gameplay perspective, a Season centered around the sky has the potential to be exhilarating. One exciting aspect is the introduction of Strand and the ability to traverse the map using grappling mechanics, drawing inspiration from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
While Tears of the Kingdom may be known for its eccentric player creations, the beautifully designed sky islands are also a visual spectacle. In a game like Destiny 2, known for its enjoyable movement mechanics, incorporating a location reminiscent of Hyrule from Nintendo's popular game could be a game-changer for Season 22. The exploration of vast oceans and the challenge of navigating a completely new environment has set the bar high, but by introducing a season with a contrasting yet equally ambitious theme, Bungie has the opportunity to replicate the success achieved in the Season of the Deep.
In addition to introducing new missions on floating islands that fully utilize Strand's movement capabilities, an engaging side activity reminiscent of Destiny 2's fishing could be incorporated. Players could engage in training sessions with Osiris, participating in a thrilling Strand obstacle course that challenges them to compete against fellow Guardians. Racing through the sky without any cooldown on their grapples, players would need to navigate through rings and strive to outpace their competitors to reach the finish line. Upon completion, the victor would be rewarded with a special chest containing superior loot, and triumphs could be designed to encourage players to complete the course swiftly or defeat their opponents a certain number of times.
In Season 22, Bungie could further explore the sky theme in the Season Pass, offering players a range of cosmetics inspired by flight suits and birds. Additionally, the Exotic weapon could have a sky-themed ability, allowing players to launch enemies into the air or deal increased damage while in the sky. With Season of the Deep setting a high standard, Season 22 needs a bold concept to avoid feeling bland and make a significant impact. Destiny 2 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
