Introducing Blaziken the Unrivaled
With 2024 underway, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet pull back the curtain on the next seven-star Tera raid battle that trainers can face. With a new patch right around the corner, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet revealed that the first Seven-Star Tera Raid battle of 2024 would see trainers take on Blaziken the Unrivaled. Known as the Blaze Pokemon, Blaziken is the fully-evolved form of Torchic and Combusken, and it is the Fire-type starter of the Hoenn region. Normally a Fire and Fighting dual-type Pokemon, Blaziken is considered a mixed attacker, with slightly more potency behind its physical attacks and many attacks at its disposal, including Blaze Kick, Close Combat, and Brave Bird. However, its higher attack stats are offset by its defense and special defense being its weakest stats, with a base total of 60 each. This essentially makes Blaziken a glass cannon, which requires Pokemon trainers to carefully consider type matchups and assign moves that cover as many bases as possible.
Blaziken's versatility will provide Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trainers with a test to start in 2024. The Seven-Star Tera Raid battle against Blaziken the Unrivaled begins on Thursday, January 11 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern, and ends on Sunday, January 14, at 7:59 p.m. Eastern. Trainers who miss the first wave of Tera raid battles will get another shot to fight and capture Blaziken the following weekend, from January 18 to January 21. In the previous seven-star Tera raid battle, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players faced Iron Bundle the Unrivaled, a defensive Paradox Pokemon. By comparison, Blaziken the Unrivaled will have the Flying-type as its Tera type, and it will have the Hidden Ability Speed Boost. True to its name, this ability will boost the Blaze Pokemon's speed by one stage, up to a maximum of six stages, after each turn in battle.
In addition to its vast arsenal of attacks, Blaziken is likely to have moves such as Bulk Up and Swords Dance to further increase its damage output. Trainers will need to consider type coverage, as Blaziken is capable of using moves often seen in competitive battles, such as Earthquake, Stone Edge, and Poison Jab. However, Blaziken's Flying-Tera type will render it weak to Rock, Ice, and Electric attacks. Strong Electric-type Pokemon with Levitate, such as Eelektross or Rotom in Wash Form, or bulky Water-type Pokemon such as Kyogre, may come in handy. The Seven-Star Tera Raid battle against Blaziken will arrive the same week as the Epilogue to The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC. All in all, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players will have plenty to do in the first full week of 2024.
