The outcome of decision-making in Baldur's Gate 3 can significantly impact the gameplay. Choosing the wrong dialogue option or engaging in morally questionable actions can lead to unforeseen consequences. These choices may result in gaining fame and fortune, but the outcome is not always positive.

In Act One of Baldur's Gate 3, players may come across a highway scattered with blood and corpses. Within the vicinity, two individuals are engaged in a life-or-death struggle to safeguard a suspicious strongbox, the worth of which is uncertain. Let's explore the consequences of players opting to relieve these men of their duties.

Baldur's Gate 3: What's In The Caravan Strongbox?

The two individuals inside the cave who appear to be caravaneers are actually members of a well-organized criminal syndicate known as the Zhentarim. Their objective is to deliver the contents of the Caravan Strongbox to their client. Should the players choose to open it, they will discover an intriguing Iron Flask along with some valuable items. By opening the strongbox, it indicates that the men have met an unfortunate end and the players have successfully overcome the demanding DC 20 Sleight of Hand check required to unlock it.

The players have the option to claim all the loot for themselves, which they can later trade or negotiate with. Alternatively, they can decide to open the Iron Flask to witness something truly extraordinary. However, it is important to remember that opening the Caravan Strongbox will prevent the players from receiving rewards from the Zhentarim agents who are currently hiding along the coast.

If the caravaneers perish in the cave, players have the option to take the Caravan Strongbox and transport it to the wine cellar located in Waukeen's Rest. Despite the roadside inn being in a less than ideal state upon the party's arrival, they can still proceed to the cellar. Converse with the lookout and persuade them to grant entry to the Zhentarim Hideout.

Upon entering, players can hand over the Caravan Strongbox to the leader of the group, Zarys, who will reward them with a magical heavy crossbow named Harold. This ranged weapon possesses the ability to impose the Bane condition upon a successful attack roll (provided the target fails their saving throw), all without expending a Spell Slot. This makes Harold a formidable support weapon. Successfully completing the delivery will also earn the favor of the Zhentarim, granting players access to their resident trader and ensuring unrestricted movement within the base.

Taking an open strongbox to Zarys will instantaneously provoke hostility from all criminals within the cave. Moreover, opening the Iron Flask will result in strained relations with a particular character in later stages of the game.

PC players can now enjoy Baldur's Gate 3, and a PS5 version will be available soon.
