In the western region of the Shadow-Cursed Lands, which serves as the main setting for Act 2 of Baldur's Gate 3, players will encounter the town of Reithwin. This town has become the abode of a Shar-worshipping cult led by Ketheric Thorm. After Thorm's initial demise, he invoked a curse upon the surrounding land, causing it to be engulfed in perpetual darkness.
Prior to his fall, Thorm and the cult devotedly constructed numerous monuments in honor of Shar. One of these monuments remains concealed beneath a grand statue situated at the heart of Reithwin, positioned amidst the town's four main buildings. When a member of the player's party approaches the statue and successfully passes a Perception check, the engraved plaques will emit a radiant glow. However, it ultimately falls upon the player to decide whether or not the statue shall reveal its hidden contents.
How to Solve the Statue Plaque Puzzle
When interacting with the plaques in Baldur's Gate 3, players will come across fragments of an inscription. The objective of this puzzle is to carefully choose each plaque in sequential order, from left to right, in order to form a unified message.
North | West | East |

By reading the north, west, and east plaques in that order, the south side of the statue base will slide open, revealing the way into the Sharran Sanctuary.
How to Earn the Dark Lady's Blessings
Inside the Sharran Sanctuary, you will encounter three statues dedicated to Shar. Each statue is accompanied by a plaque at its base. Upon approaching a statue, a dialogue will initiate, offering players the choice to either engage or retreat. To proceed, players must roll a saving throw or have sufficient Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma to overcome the test. The difficulty class (DC) for each test is set at 14. Alternatively, Shadowheart or another Cleric of Shar possesses the ability to effortlessly pass these tests.
Successful characters receive a +5 bonus to the tested ability, enhancing it beyond the usual limit of 20 by adding +2 or +3 to the modifier. Conversely, failing characters suffer a -5 penalty to the ability and become the target of three Sentinels - a level seven Wizard, Paladin, and Cleric.
If the party successfully passes all three saving throws, regardless of whether it is the same party member for each, a hidden altar will be unveiled behind a previously concealed wall. Players have the option to interact with either the altar or the Ritual Dagger of Shar, triggering a new dialogue.
A character who successfully passes a Religion check or is a Cleric of Shar can choose to offer blood to the altar. By doing so, they will receive four items: a Scroll of Revivify, a Scroll of Blight, an Elixir of Necrotic Resistance, and a Potion of Angelic Reprieve.
Alternatively, players have the option to try and take the Ritual Dagger. However, attempting to do so will result in the summoning of three Sentinels, similar to failing one of Shar's tests. The Ritual Dagger of Shar is a +1 Dagger that inflicts an additional 1d4 Necrotic damage, but its value is only 65 gold. For most players, the dagger is not worth the added trouble.
Baldur's Gate 3 is available now on macOS and PC. The PS5 version launches in September.
