Premiering on July 14, Foundation season 2 brings forth a transformative period for the Galactic Empire. Written by Isaac Asimov, this highly anticipated sci-fi series returns after a nearly two-year hiatus. Set more than a century after the establishment of the iconic Foundation, the show explores the deteriorating state of the Genetic Dynasty, ruled by the Cleons. Meanwhile, the banished proponents of Psychohistory, once prophesying its impending collapse, now prepare for its realization as predicted by Hari Seldon and Gaal Dornick.
Along with the progression of the story, season 2 introduces fresh faces like Isabella Laughland, who portrays Brother Constant, and also showcases older versions of existing characters like Poly Verisof, played by Kulvinder Ghir. These new additions symbolize the next stage in the followers of Hari Seldon's teachings, disseminating their beliefs through the Church of the Galactic Spirit. Previously a child in season 1, Poly has now become a religious leader, accompanied by Brother Constant, his apprentice, as they embark on a spiritual journey throughout the Outer Reach.
Kulvinder Ghir Talks Foundation Season 2
: Ghir Talks About Joining Apple TV Show, Poly's Evolution, and Relevance of Psychohistory.Screen Rant: Although you may be new to the world of Foundation, Poly is not. How did it feel to immerse yourself in this vast and intricately crafted universe, where comprehending Asimov's concept of Psychohistory was a prerequisite?
Kulvinder Ghir found the task quite daunting due to the epic nature of the saga. The concept of Psychohistory, which involves predicting the future through data, mathematics, and knowledge, felt very relevant to our current reality. The depth and complexity of this subject matter were apparent. However, the challenge of exploring and understanding it was a source of joy and fulfillment in joining this production. This character offered the opportunity to make a difference for ordinary individuals and to have faith in the possibility of change. All of these elements came together beautifully in this role.
"When we last encountered Poly, he was still just a young child. How did you and David S. Goyer go about filling in the gaps of what has transpired in his life now that we find him as a jaded religious figure a century later?
Kulvinder Ghir: Well, we meet him when he's around 12 to 14 years old. Upon revisiting the previous series, what stood out about the actor who portrayed him was his innocence, along with his insatiable curiosity and constant questioning, always seeking more knowledge. That became my starting point. As the story unfolds over the span of 130 years, while he awaits the return of the prophet, we see the evolution of what is demanded from him in order to bring about these transformations."
The purpose of those changes is to increase the recruitment of disciples and expand the number of individuals who join the Foundation. This will strengthen the Foundation's influence and position as a nation. However, in terms of politics, Poly strongly believes in freedom and the value of equality for all. During times of crisis or revolution, the focus should not be limited to specific sectors, but rather should consider the well-being of everyone. Ultimately, the preservation of peace is of utmost importance, as it is the common people who suffer and fight, while politicians often only observe from a distance. Therefore, being on the frontline with Poly is truly desirable.
Count me in, Poly.
Kulvinder Ghir: He is capable of doing that for you. He can involve you in that movement. There is a beautiful line where he mentions, "You view profit, but it's the interpretation [referring to prophet]." It all depends on how you perceive it.
It does not pertain to material possessions in that manner. I believe he openly expresses his emotions and operates based on that approach, but he does so with great intelligence.
