Jared Harris Takes Foundation Season 2 to Exciting New Heights Beyond Hari Seldon's Isolation

Foundation season 2 is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on July 14, continuing the story of rebellion against the Galactic Empire. Based on Isaac Asimov's novels and adapted for television by David S. Goyer, the second season of this acclaimed sci-fi series sees the eponymous Foundation gaining more influence as Hari Seldon's followers transform from exiles to a prominent religion that spreads across different planets.

In Foundation season 2, Jared Harris portrays Dr. Hari Seldon, who appears in two distinct forms. The season 1 finale revealed that the brilliant mathematician exists as a digital ghost inside the Vault on Terminus. Additionally, Gaal, played by Lou Llobell, possesses a digital version of Hari through her mysterious knife hilt. Although both versions of Hari share the same mission, their approaches differ, leading Gaal and Salvor, portrayed by Leah Harvey, to discover this disparity soon.

Jared Harris Talks Foundation Season 2

Screen Rant interviewed Harris to discuss how he integrated different elements of Hari into his portrayal for Foundation season 2, the thrill of working with fellow actors Harvey and Llobell, and his reflections on Hari's perspective of Psychohistory.

Screen Rant: In the current season, we are given a glimpse into the thoughts and perspectives of Hari, as well as Dr. Seldon, through the utilization of the Prime Radiant. Could you discuss the impact of this seclusion on Hari's development, as well as any alterations it may have caused to your portrayal of the character?

Jared Harris: We discussed how being isolated for an extended period of time would have a lasting impact on one's psyche. It was important for this reality to be consistently portrayed throughout the season, rather than simply dismissed in a conversation. While it is often subtly addressed, it does play a significant role in shaping the relationships.

On the topic of relationships, Gaal and Hari were vital characters in the first season. Now, with the addition of Salvor, we have two talented young actors to collaborate with onscreen. How does it feel to have such brilliant actors to connect with?

Jared Harris: I had a blast. I truly enjoyed working with both of them - they're incredibly passionate and dedicated individuals. They bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the table. It reminded me of my early days in the industry, where everything feels fresh, exciting, and full of potential. Whether it was on set with both of them or just one, I cherished every moment.

To what extent do you think Hari's intentions or approaches are unclear? Could he have found more successful ways to convey his message without having it misinterpreted by Gaal in a fit of anger?

Jared Harris: The reason behind that is that he is unable to answer all her queries as it would impact her decision-making. However, you possess all the necessary resources to find the answers on your own. Moreover, there is the famous saying, "Give a person a fish, you feed them for a day. Teach them to fish, you feed them for life." He wishes for her to initiate the process of self-education because she possesses all the tools required to succeed.
