17-year-old Xochitl Gomez expressed her concern about a minor injury she sustained during her performance on Dancing With the Stars. However, she reassured us that she is determined to continue in the competition. "I'm perfectly fine, no worries," she shared with us after the live show on Tuesday, October 31. "I accidentally bumped my knee against the altar at the highest point. It was unclear whether it was a twist or something related to my kneecap," she explained.
During DWTS Monster Night, Gomez and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy delivered a breathtaking contemporary routine to the powerful track "Game of Survival" by Ruelle. The judges were impressed, awarding them a commendable score of 37 out of 40. As the routine concluded, Gomez captivated the audience by ascending onto an altar. However, confusion arose when Chmerkovskiy unexpectedly carried her off the dance floor, leaving viewers puzzled. Initially, it seemed that DWTS host Alfonso Ribeiro and Chmerkovskiy were lending a hand in supporting Gomez as she stood in front of the judges' table.
Gomez remembered the moment, saying, "I thought, let me see if I can maintain my composure. We're fine." When asked if she was alright, Gomez assured them, saying, "Yes, we're all good. Trust me."
Later, when they went to receive their scores, Chmerkovskiy lifted Gomez's dress, exposing what seemed to be a blood stain. However, Gomez brushed it off as part of the Halloween theme.
Despite the snafu, Gomez said she had “a lot of fun” doing her contemporary routine.
Val Chmerkovsky and Xochitl Gomez, pictured above, made a triumphant return to the dance floor later in the evening to participate in the intense "Dance Monster-thon" marathon. This thrilling competition featured two dances performed by all the couples simultaneously, with the goal of being the last pair standing. Those unfortunate enough to be visited by the Grim Reaper were eliminated from the competition. In an impressive display of skill and perseverance, Gomez and Chmerkovskiy emerged as the victors of the "Dance Monster-thon," earning themselves an additional five points to their overall score.
Gomez expressed her surprise, stating, "I did not anticipate that outcome. I was actually hoping to be eliminated." With the progression of DWTS, Chmerkovskiy and Gomez have established themselves as the leading pair, particularly since they currently hold the top position on the leaderboard after Monster Night.
Gomez explained that she doesn't consider it in that way and instead focuses on how the night went and if it was deserving. She added that the activities they had during the week were challenging, making her feel that the recognition was well earned. The actress acknowledged her partner for successfully choreographing an impressive contemporary routine despite being more experienced in ballroom-style dances.
Gomez expressed that she could see that it had a slight impact, but it was one of those situations where if they can overcome it together, they can overcome anything. She enthusiastically shared that it was an enjoyable experience, mentioning that she took the lead in the contemporary dance and Val took the lead in the dance marathon.
You can catch Dancing With the Stars on ABC and Disney+ on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
