Chained Soldier, the anime that recently premiered in the Winter 2024 anime season, has garnered significant attention with a current rating of 7.23 on MyAnimeList. However, the new anime is not just a typical action-fantasy series, but also falls into the ecchi genre. Given that High School DxD is known as one of the most popular ecchi anime, it begs the question: Is Chained Soldier on track to becoming the next High School DxD?
Chained Soldier (Mato Seihei no Slave) is a manga series originating from Japan, created by Takahiro and illustrated by Yohei Takemura. It first appeared in serialized form on Shueisha's Shōnen Jump+ online platform in January 2019, and was subsequently selected by anime studio Seven Arcs for adaptation into an anime series. Please note that this article may contain spoilers from the Chained Soldier manga, and represents the author's personal views.

Chained Soldier has the potential to be the next High School DxD for the new generation. While both anime are similar in terms of the ecchi genre and the scenarios that result in risque moments between the protagonist and female leads, there are also unique distinctions that set Chained Soldier apart. One of the main differences lies in the distinct protagonists of each series.
Yuuki Wakura from Mato Seihei no Slave, depicted in the image via Seven Arcs, is a character who epitomizes idealism, generosity, and selflessness, willing to put his life on the line for the people he cares about. Despite grappling with the societal imbalance of powers favoring only women, Yuuki aspires to become a hero. It is this aspiration that drives him to join the Anti-Demon Corps 7th Unit as a protector.
Meanwhile, Issei Hyoudou from High School DxD is quite the opposite. He is a selfish, petty, and perverted person who dreams of experiencing a harem. Not only that, he is also quite proud of his notoriety as a pervert.

Both anime handle ecchi moments differently when it comes to the series. In Mato Seihei no Slave, the female lead, Kyouka Uzen, has the power to make anyone her slave, granting them special fighting abilities. However, her ability comes with a major drawback - after using the enslaved person, Kyouka's body automatically moves to fulfill their deepest desire as a reward. For example, when she enslaved Shuukis, she only needed to feed them meat.
Whenever Kyouka uses Yuuki as an enslaved person, her body automatically moves to give him sensual rewards, ranging from kisses to other acts. This ability is where the series draws in its primary source of ecchi content.

High School DxD initially lacked an ecchi foundation in its plot, but the series later incorporated ecchi moments that led Issei to power-ups, although his strength increased primarily due to his motivation. The two series use different approaches to integrate the genre into the storyline, and while some may favor Mato Seihei no Slave's method, personal preference could lead to a choice between the two. Ultimately, there is no definitive way to pick one over the other. With that being said, Chained Soldier could be considered the successor to High School DxD.

As a passionate anime fan, I am thrilled to witness the emergence of Chained Soldier, an exciting new anime series that has taken the anime community by storm. With its captivating storyline, engaging characters, and a healthy dose of ecchi elements, Chained Soldier has all the makings of becoming the next High School DxD, a beloved ecchi anime that has left an indelible mark on the genre.
One of the aspects that sets Chained Soldier apart from its predecessor is the unique dynamic between the protagonist, Yuuki Wakura, and the female lead, Kyouka Uzen. Unlike Issei Hyoudou, the protagonist of High School DxD, who is characterized by his selfish desires and perverted nature, Yuuki embodies idealism, selflessness, and a strong sense of justice. This contrast creates a refreshing and compelling narrative, as viewers root for Yuuki's growth and his journey to become a true hero.
