The official English social media accounts for Solo Leveling announced a new trailer showcasing the opening of the upcoming anime adaptation of Chugong and DUBU's webtoon. Titled "LeveL," the anime will feature a collaboration between Hiroyuki Sawano (SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]) and the Korean idol group TOMORROW X TOGETHER.
Sawano is renowned for his atmospheric soundtracks in popular anime series such as Attack on Titan, Guilty Crown, and Kill La Kill. The trailer not only revealed the series' opening theme and visuals but also announced the Solo Leveling World Premiere, which will take place in December in Seoul, Tokyo, and Los Angeles.
Solo Leveling takes place ten years after supernatural portals suddenly appeared, connecting the world to dangerous and unpredictable realms teeming with monsters. These portals, called "Gates," caused widespread devastation on a scale never seen before. Among those brave enough to venture into these Gates are the Hunters, and Sung Jinwoo, an E-Rank Hunter, is often ridiculed as "The Weakest Hunter" due to his ability to barely survive each mission.
With limited career prospects and mounting responsibilities, Jinwoo has no choice but to continue risking his life. When presented with an opportunity for a more lucrative job, he eagerly accepts, unknowing that he will soon encounter a creature more powerful than any monster he has ever faced.
The announcement of the Solo Leveling anime adaptation took place during Crunchyroll's Anime Expo 2022 Industry Panel in July of last year. A1-Pictures (Lycoris Recoil) is responsible for the production of the series, with Shunsuke Nakashige as the director, Noboru Kimura handling the scripts, Tomoko Sudo in charge of character designs, and Hirotaka Tokuda creating the monster designs.
The cast features Taito Ban as Jinwoo Sung/Shun Mizushino, Reina Ueda as Hae-In Cha/Shizuku Kosaka, Daisuke Hirakawa as Jong-In Choi/Shin Mogami, Banjou Ginga as Gunhee Go/Kiyoomi Gotō, and Genta Nakamura as Jinho Yoo/Kenta Morohishi. Originally scheduled for release in 2023, the adaptation was delayed until Winter 2024 due to the unfortunate passing of the original series illustrator, DUBU.
The Solo Leveling World Premiere will showcase the first two episodes of the series in three cities during December. Tokyo and Seoul screenings will occur on December 10, while the Los Angeles screening will take place on December 14. Solo Leveling is set to be broadcasted in January 2024, with Crunchyroll streaming the series.
The Solo Leveling webtoon is available to read on Tappytoon and Tapas.
