Highlights

Cyberpunk 2077 offers a plethora of captivating side jobs that serve to flesh out individual characters and enrich the expansive world of the game.

One noteworthy side job, titled Sweet Dreams, ingeniously revisits the game's prologue in a manner that sets it apart from the rest.

In the mission, players revisit the familiar setting but with a fresh twist: they're on their own, without their partner, and gain a new perspective, bringing added depth to Night City.

Cyberpunk 2077 features numerous side jobs for V to undertake while endeavoring to protect their mind from Johnny Silverhand's unwanted influence. Some of the standout side jobs in the game are interconnected, consisting of multiple missions that gradually reveal the personal stories of certain characters who play a minor or negligible role in the main storyline.

Several of Cyberpunk 2077's stand-alone side missions are noteworthy either for their excellent writing or for the sheer enjoyment they provide. These missions can be independent of the main narrative or branch off from larger stories. One mission, in particular, stands out as it has a unique plot that is separate from other events in the game. However, it also cleverly references the game's Prologue in a delightful manner.

Sweet Dreams Reverses V's Situation in Cyberpunk 2077's Prologue

After completing one of the Lifepaths offered in Cyberpunk 2077, players embark on the initial mission titled The Rescue. It follows V and their loyal friend Jackie Wells as they undertake a mission to save a young woman named Sandra Dorsett from a ruthless group of Scavs. These Scavs aim to exploit her body for its high-tech enhancements. As the game's first significant undertaking, this task provides players with a manageable challenge, allowing them to familiarize themselves with the game's fundamental combat and stealth mechanics.

The Rescue serves as a concise and impactful prologue, offering players a glimpse into the typical challenges faced by the duo. Despite the dilapidated state of the apartment before the mission begins, the outcome leaves behind even greater destruction and loss of life. Shockingly, the Scavs reoccupy the apartment, resuming their cyberwar harvesting scheme. In the side job Sweet Dreams, V discovers the sinister truth the hard way when they purchase a dubious braindance from Stefan at an exorbitant price. Despite numerous warning signs, V proceeds and becomes ensnared in a human trafficking scheme, possibly shedding light on Sandra Dorsett's initial predicament.

V finds themselves in the same bathtub where Sandra was discovered, but the crucial difference is that they manage to wake up and escape. Johnny Silverhand rightfully criticizes V for their foolish decision, prompting them to start their getaway from the apartment.

What follows is a mission resembling The Rescue, but this time V is alone, without Jackie, and they are stranded on the other side of the apartment with no equipment or weapons. Throughout the ordeal, Johnny taunts them relentlessly. For those who quickly recognize their surroundings, it can be disorienting to suddenly find themselves in a location that may not have crossed their mind for quite some time. Adding to the surrealness is the fact that V doesn't acknowledge the familiarity of the place, despite having been there before.

The rest of the mission proceeds smoothly, with V swiftly eliminating all the Scavs inside the apartment and retrieving their equipment. They then confront Stefan, demanding a refund and insisting he leave Night City or face dire consequences. The mission concludes at this point, and it is evident that a significant aspect of the game has come full circle. V's journey began with rescuing someone from the Scavs, only to find themselves back in the same location later on. It is a missed opportunity that neither Johnny nor V mention this, but if Sweet Dreams was intentionally intended to reference The Rescue, it is intriguing to observe the same situation from the opposite perspective.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
