In an interview with TV Line, executive producer Gene Klein sheds light on the discrepancy, discussing the creative freedom granted by USA Network during the filming of the inaugural episode. Here is his complete statement:

I wasn't aware of that. I was aware that there were various versions. The slightly longer version has already been available on Netflix globally, so we knew it existed. Therefore, it isn't exactly a surprise. The USA network was initially open to us creating a lengthy pilot but eventually decided against it. However, they did inform us that the extended version was suitable for international distribution. The difference lies in a few scenes and some scene trims, and Aaron put in extensive effort to remove those minutes. Nevertheless, the fact that it is now out there doesn't come as a complete surprise.

Which Suits Pilot Is Better, Netflix's or Peacock's?

Netflix's version of the Suits pilot is slightly longer, with a running time of 81 minutes compared to Peacock's version at 72 minutes. However, it doesn't really matter which version new viewers choose to watch. Both versions contain the major narrative points of the episode, effectively presenting the show's entire premise. The longer cut of the premiere on Netflix is justified by Klein's explanation. Netflix is a global streaming platform, catering to audiences in multiple territories worldwide. In contrast, Peacock is currently only available in the US.

In the episode "New York's Best Closer," Harvey Specter, the top closer in New York City, hires Mike Ross, a highly capable but fake lawyer, to be his new associate.
