Pokemon GO's addition of Pokemon from the Paldea region marks the quickest adaptation of a new generation, potentially paving the way for Generation 10's immediate addition.
Before the trend of organizing special events to advertise new releases of Pokemon games, the inclusion of all regions in Pokemon GO required a gradual process involving exclusive events and promotions.
The swift inclusion of the Paldea region in Pokemon GO hints at the possibility of Generation 10 being added earlier than anticipated, potentially even at the onset of the next generation.
During the recent Pokemon Presents event, numerous announcements were made, but one in particular marked a fresh start for the mobile game Pokemon GO, which some fans may have initially overlooked. The presentation elaborated on GO Fest, placing emphasis on the inclusion of Diancie and its Mega Evolution in the game. Furthermore, it was revealed that in September 2023, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet from the Paldea region will be introduced to Pokemon GO.
Although the swift addition of Generation 9 Pokemon may not appear significant for Pokemon GO, it actually sets a new record for the game and the series' adaptation speed to a new generation. Once the starter creatures and other Pokemon from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are incorporated into the game, these titles will have only been released for 11 months. This suggests a high likelihood that future generations, such as Generation 10, could be added promptly.
How Pokemon GO Will Likely Add Generation 10 Pokemon As Soon As Possible
When Pokemon GO initially launched, it was relatively small and simple compared to its current state. It had a decent variety of creatures from the Kanto region to capture, and additional ones like Ditto were added later after understanding how they worked. In 2016, Baby Pokemon were introduced to the game, leading up to the inclusion of Johto in February 2017. The Hoenn region followed that same year, and each subsequent year saw the addition of new batches of regional Pokemon from Generations 4 and 6.
However, in 2019, Pokemon GO established itself as a significant part of the Pokemon franchise, going beyond being just a mobile game. It began hosting special events to celebrate major launches in the franchise, starting with Pokemon Sword and Shield. Galarian Wheezing became available as a time-limited encounter to commemorate the release of Generation 8, while Hisuian Voltorb could be found to promote Pokemon Legends Arceus. Additionally, Gimmighoul was introduced a few months later in 2023 to symbolize Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Despite promotions, no Generation or region of Pokemon has received preferential treatment for game promotion, except for regional variants. All regions were slowly added through exclusive events and other promotions in Pokemon GO. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Unova are the only regions with a complete Pokedex, while Generations 4 and 6 through 8 are still being added.
The Galar region starters, which were celebrated with the addition of Galarian Wheezing to Pokemon GO, are still missing. However, Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly will be joining the adventure next month, along with other Paldea Pokemon. This is the fastest addition of any generation and its starters in Pokemon GO to date. This suggests that Paldea will be included in Pokemon GO's gradual release, along with the remaining Pokemon that have yet to be added, even though Scarlet and Violet have only been out for a year.
Adding the creatures from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet to the game at this early stage puts Niantic's AR game in an intriguing position for the future. With Generation 10 still a few years away, this allows the mobile title to have more time to catch up, potentially bridging the gap between the other regional Pokedexes that are currently lacking in Pokemon GO and Generation 10. The swift introduction of the Paldea region into Pokemon GO suggests that Generation 10 may even be added sooner, possibly at the start of the next Pokemon generation. Pokemon GO can be played on both Android and iOS devices.
