If the players decide to ignore the contraption and still retrieve the weapon at the end of the quest, it may lead to a thrilling explosion and a gratifying act of revenge against the Githyanki.

Spoiler Alert: Baldur's Gate 3 Act One

Baldur's Gate 3 players have multiple options to kick off the Blood of Lathander quest, with each choice leading to different outcomes. Located in the Mountains Pass region during Act One, this quest is both highly rewarding and entertaining. Therefore, it is recommended that players prioritize completing this quest before advancing too far into Act One.

One of the highlights of this quest is the Blood of Lathander reward, which is considered one of the finest weapons in Baldur's Gate 3. This one-handed mace inflicts Bludgeoning damage during regular attacks and possesses special abilities that can unleash immense Radiant damage or even prevent the wielder's death. Not only does the weapon itself make this quest incredibly worthwhile, but the various endings also make it stand out from other quests.

How to Start the Blood of Lathander Quest in Baldur’s Gate 3

In the Rosymorn Monastery, embarking on the Blood of Lathander quest involves locating the ceremonial room on the second floor. Upon finding it, players are tasked with obtaining three ceremonial weapons from various locations within the Monastery. These weapons are then to be placed on the pedestals inside the ceremonial room. Successfully completing this route will result in the acquisition of the Crest of Lathander, an optional yet crucial item that grants players the ability to choose the outcome of the quest.

Discovering Lathander's concealed chamber within the Githyanki Creche in BG3 offers players an alternative means of initiating the Blood of Lathander quest. Regardless of how players begin the quest, it eventually culminates here. To locate this chamber, players must unravel a puzzle situated deep within the Githyanki Creche, specifically in a short hallway featuring two statues near the area where players encounter Vlaakith. To rotate the statue on the southern side of the room, players must either apply Grease to it or successfully pass an Athletics skill check. By turning the south statue to face west and the north statue to face east, the entrance to the secret chamber will unlock.

Following this, players must tackle the subsequent puzzle of navigating through numerous traps. These traps can be deactivated by launching ranged attacks at their power sources or by directly disabling the traps with a Trap Disarm Toolkit. After successfully surviving the traps, progressing further becomes a point of no return, prompting players to exercise caution and consider saving their progress at this juncture.

Blood of Lathander's "Bad" Ending is Pure Meme Material

Players in Baldur's Gate 3 now have the opportunity to obtain one of the game's Legendary weapons. To complete the quest, there are two potential approaches. The first option involves disarming the contraption that holds the weapon. This can be done by inserting the Crest of Lathander into the device, allowing the weapon to be safely retrieved. Alternatively, players can choose a more thrilling option - ignoring the contraption altogether and attempting to retrieve the weapon by force. However, this second option comes with consequences. Triggering the device on the Monastery's roof will cause the Creche and the surrounding areas to explode, resulting in the death of all Githyanki inside, as well as the player's party unless they manage to escape to safety.

Surviving the blast, the Origin Characters will express their reactions to the epic destruction of the Creche. Surprisingly, players can convince Lae’zel not to be disappointed by explaining that it was an accident, to which she agrees. On the other hand, Astarion will exhibit jealousy towards the player's murderous tendencies, creating an exchange that is best witnessed firsthand.

It is no secret that the Githyanki do not have a harmonious relationship with other races in Baldur's Gate 3, so it is not uncommon for players to find themselves in situations where they can or should take action against them. Even the Githyanki Origin Character, Lae’Zel, can be inhospitable towards the other party members she chooses to associate with, adding fuel to the fire. With all this in mind, destroying the Githyanki Creche is the ultimate act of petty vengeance that can bring satisfaction to players in a way that few other quests can. Especially when considering that the demise of the Githyanki was a result of intrusive thoughts about stealing a visually appealing weapon, making the entirety of the experience both silly and dramatic.

Baldur's Gate 3 is out now for PC and PS5 with an Xbox Series X/S version in development.
