The journey to Phoenix Gate commenced during the preceding main scenario quest of Final Fantasy 16. Along the way, Clive and Jill made a stop at Martha's Rest to rendezvous with one of Cid's comrades. It was there that they witnessed the arduous struggles endured by those unfortunate enough to possess the power of being a Bearer, and were made aware of the grim destiny that awaits many if they overexert their abilities.
In the fifteenth main scenario quest titled "Holding On", players of Final Fantasy 16 delve further into this expansive territory. Additionally, they unlock access to a selection of fresh side quests that offer an opportunity to veer off the well-trodden path and pursue new adventures.
This walkthrough contains spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.
Go to Eastpool
Now that the bridge has been restored, Final Fantasy 16 players can finally resume their journey to Phoenix Gate. Upon starting the quest "Holding On," players will unlock three new side quests. The first one, titled "Crystalline Lifeline," offers players an opportunity to earn some extra crafting materials. The second quest, "Beast Against Beast," provides another chance for players to collect valuable resources. Lastly, there is the quest "False Friends," which offers rewards that may not be incredibly remarkable, but are still worth considering for players looking for additional crafting materials. It is advisable to complete these side quests before continuing with the main story.
Exploring Eastpool
To reach Eastpool, simply head through the north exit of Martha's Rest. Along your journey, be on the lookout for a dead end located on the east side of Martha's Rest. Nestled in an alley next to a stack of straw rests a chest that holds the coveted Forevermore Orchestrion Roll. Once you feel prepared, venture across the bridge to enter Greensheaves. Although this may seem like a relatively small area, diligent players will discover an abundance of materials if they take the time to explore their surroundings.
Venture along the designated path towards Eastpool. Just before stepping onto the bridge that leads to Eastpool, players can choose to journey southward, where a treacherous cliff awaits. Here, a fearless dragon awaits, ready to strike. Overcome this mighty beast and be rewarded with a valuable Dragon Talon, a rare item essential for the art of crafting.
Proceed to traverse the bridge and behold a captivating cutscene that unfolds. As the events unravel, players will be bestowed with a brand new ensemble, accompanied by a plethora of armor pieces and a formidable weapon. These acquisitions are not mere trinkets, but rather substantial upgrades that will greatly bolster the player's abilities.
From that point onward, continue following the crimson waypoint in the direction of Phoenix Gate. Proceed towards the gate located in the northwest to initiate another captivating cutscene. Clive and Jill rendezvous with the esteemed Mayor of Eastpool, who cordially requests their presence at a meeting with a Bearer who had dutifully served Clive's father in the past. This marks the commencement of a quest entitled "Back in the Day". Advance towards the well to trigger a compelling cutscene, after which you should engage in conversation with two of the local villagers. Then, proceed to the stables and have a conversation with the Chocobo Keeper stationed there.
Head towards the windmill across the bridge, where the red waypoint is located. Retrace your steps back to the area where the dragon enemy was previously encountered. Take care of the two enemy groups that appear before progressing. After defeating them, a cutscene will play, marking the completion of the request. Keep moving towards the gate and head northwest, following the red waypoint.
Once you pass through the gate, you will enter an area that has been devastated by the Blight. There are no monsters in this area, so there is no need to worry about being attacked. As you approach the obelisk and activate fast travel, a cutscene will play and the world map will become accessible. Proceed to the Phoenix Gate Ruins to continue the story and initiate the next main scenario quest.
