Unveiling the Enchanting New Map Expansion: Uncover the Secrets of Zelda's BotW-Inspired DLC

Uncover the mysterious disappearance of Sheikah technology in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Dive into a captivating DLC that pays homage to Breath of the Wild's iconic Sheikah influence Explore a transformed map and rediscover lost elements in this thrilling adventure

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a game built on an existing map, successfully establishes its own significance. Originally planned as an expansion to Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom evolved into a separate project that has delighted many fans. The visually stunning kingdom of Hyrule remains as awe-inspiring as ever, now offering the added thrill of sky islands. The game impresses with new enemy placements, quests, and an array of collectibles. Additionally, the captivating exploration of the Depths brings a truly unique experience.

Nintendo has packed an impressive amount of content into Tears of the Kingdom, although there are limitations. Despite the introduction of fresh material, it undeniably follows in the footsteps of Breath of the Wild, complete with some of its inherent flaws. Even with attempts to address criticisms such as weapon durability and dungeon design, these aspects still divide opinion. Moreover, Tears of the Kingdom struggles with the issue of distancing itself too far from Breath of the Wild's map, an aspect that could potentially be rectified through DLC.

Sheikah Tech Has Vanished From Tears of the Kingdom

Returning Breath of the Wild players will quickly notice peculiar inconsistencies in how their previous adventure has carried over. Although the events of Breath of the Wild did occur, Link's status as the hero of Hyrule is not widely recognized. While familiar side characters like Hudson and the citizens of Tarrytown acknowledge Link, Bolson, who Link previously interacted with during the Tarrytown quest, has no recollection of him whatsoever. All of these peculiarities combine to create a sense of veterans slipping into an alternate Zelda timeline.

These discrepancies become particularly evident when exploring areas like Hyrule Field or the iconic Shrine of Awakening. In order to make space on the map and ensure that new players do not feel that they have missed any vital story details, Sheikah technology has been effectively removed from Tears of the Kingdom, with the exception of what Purah and Robbie have created. The towers, Shrines, and even the colossal Divine Beasts have vanished, replaced only by the Skyview Towers and Purah's unique adaptation of the Sheikah Slate. With the exception of a single discarded Guardian shell in Purah's former laboratory, it is truly unusual to witness one of the most prominent aspects of Breath of the Wild completely vanish without a trace.

DLC Can Call Back To Breath of the Wild's Heavy Sheikah Influence

Fortunately, a straightforward solution exists. Similar to how the floating platforms in Breath of the Wild's Master Mode may have served as inspiration for Tears of the Kingdom's sky islands, TotK can make references to its predecessor in its own DLC. In a quest assigned by the Sheikah scientist characters, Link could uncover hidden pockets of Sheikah technology deep within the Depths. It would be ideal to include dialogue explaining the absence of Sheikah technology on the surface, a question that has left fans curious.

This quest would allow players to reclaim some of their Sheikah weapons and armor from Breath of the Wild. Additionally, it would serve as the perfect opportunity to reveal the whereabouts of Kass. This Rito musician is notably absent in Tears of the Kingdom, and many players are eager to see his return. Considering Kass's significant involvement in The Champions' Ballad DLC, it wouldn't be far-fetched to imagine Nintendo saving him for another expansion. While no DLC for Tears of the Kingdom has been announced yet, if it ever is, prioritizing the revival of Breath of the Wild's Sheikah technology would be paramount.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available now for Nintendo Switch.
