Netflix has unveiled the official teaser trailer for The Chosen One, their adaptation of American Jesus. This modern biblical tale is based on the comic Chosen, which was originally released in 2004. Created by Mark Millar and Peter Gross, the story revolves around a 12-year-old boy who discovers he has returned as Jesus Christ. With the ability to perform miracles and face the daunting task of guiding the world through a long-standing conflict, the boy must navigate his destined role. The Chosen One is set to premiere on August 16.

What To Expect From The Chosen One

In the Netflix adaptation, Bobby Luhnow takes on the role of Jodie, the central character who is referred to as the "chosen one." Throughout the series, Jodie will experience a range of intense emotions. The show's synopsis reveals that the town's Evangelical and Yaquí leaders will attempt to persuade Jodie to utilize his special abilities in order to save humanity. However, Jodie's main focus lies in trying to impress a girl he is interested in and standing up to those who bully him.

Everardo Gout and Leopoldo Gout, co-showrunners of The Chosen One, bring their expertise behind the camera. Everardo, known for directing 2021’s The Forever Purge, has also worked on popular series like Snowpiercer, The Terror, Luke Cage, and Banshee. Leopoldo, an executive producer on films like Molly’s Game, adds his creative talents to this unique premise that blends various genres.
