Unveiling the Differences in Yellowstone on CBS: What's New?

Experience Yellowstone's transition to CBS! Discover the intriguing changes that await as the beloved series finds a new home Unveiling the revised air schedule and captivating alterations in this article

Wondering if there are any differences between the Paramount version and the airing of Yellowstone on CBS? Here's what you need to know as the show's fifth season continues. Anticipation has been high for updates on the release of Season 5 Part 2 of Taylor Sheridan's popular neo-Western series. However, there have been setbacks, rumors of conflicts between Sheridan and lead actor Kevin Costner, and a heartbreaking cancellation.

Fortunately, we have the opportunity to revisit the Montana ranch through its different spinoffs, such as 1883, 1923, 1944, and 6666. Additionally, fans can now enjoy all the highlights of Yellowstone through a recent rights agreement, with every episode available for streaming on CBS from the very beginning.

However, it seems that the episodes on CBS might differ from those on Paramount. Let's delve into the details you should be aware of.

Is Yellowstone different on CBS? Changes explained

Country Living has received confirmation from CBS that minor modifications have been implemented to Yellowstone, comprising the censoring of profanity, violence, and sexual content. However, CBS has assured that the "integrity of the original series will be maintained."

According to the outlet, there will be censorship of "certain words," but the representative has assured that automated dialogue replacement will not be used. Instead, the words will be silenced.

Despite these changes, CBS' version of Yellowstone remains unsuitable for children. Originally rated TV-MA, meant for adult audiences only, the edited version now carries a TV-14 DLSV rating. This new rating implies that the show may not be appropriate for viewers under 14 due to suggestive dialogue, strong coarse language, intense sexual situations, or intense violence.

CBS, being a network television station, adheres to stricter broadcast standards compared to cable channels like Paramount. These standards encompass subjects like drug use, sex and nudity, cursing, and violence.

As said by Country Living: “In its original form, Yellowstone certainly would not pass the broadcast standards, as it is rated TV-MA for nudity, profanity, and violence.”

When does Yellowstone air on CBS? Release schedule explained

Yellowstone premiered on CBS with the first two episodes of Season 1 on Sunday, September 17. The following two episodes will air consecutively every week, starting at 8pm ET. This announcement comes at a time when the WGA strike and SAG-AFTRA strike have resulted in the suspension of production for scripted shows in the US, forcing networks to make sudden alterations to their Fall schedules.

CBS, unable to produce original scripted shows, is now putting its focus on unscripted television and acquiring dramas for repeat airing. The decision to acquire Yellowstone seems to have been a successful one. Prior to Sunday, CBS' chief marketing officer, Mike Benson, disclosed that 80% of the CBS audience had never seen an episode of Yellowstone. In a subsequent report, it was revealed that the series' pilot episode from 2018 garnered an impressive 6.6 million viewers.
