The main menu of Baldur's Gate 3 contains a hidden Easter egg featuring a cameo appearance by Swen Vincke, the CEO of Larian Studios. This clever reference to the passionate executive was discovered shortly after the game's release, receiving both critical acclaim and fan appreciation.
Swen Vincke is a well-known figure in the CRPG community, largely due to his frequent appearances in developer vlogs and other promotional materials for Larian's games. He often appears wearing a flamboyant suit of armor, which has become a playful inside joke for the Belgian company. One memorable instance of this gag occurred in a 2019 promo for the Definitive Edition of Divinity: Original Sin 2. The promo depicted Vincke, garbed in armor, infiltrating Valve with the mission of implementing cross-save functionality between the PC and Switch versions of the game.
CRPG fans have recently discovered a new sighting of Vincke in his iconic armor. The 51-year-old executive appears in the artwork on the main menu of Baldur's Gate 3, leading a party in a late-game location. Although the character's face is not visible in the artwork, fans have noted the striking resemblance between Vincke's favorite look and the hero in the artwork. It's no surprise that this Easter egg was quickly found, considering the game's popularity. Baldur's Gate 3 sold 2.5 million copies during its three-year early access period and has gained a large number of players since its recent launch. It is even approaching the Steam record for the highest concurrent player count in 2023, held by Hogwarts Legacy.
With Vincke's appearance in Baldur's Gate 3, it's evident that a remarkable amount of attention to detail was put into Larian's latest game. Drawing inspiration from the Dungeons and Dragons tabletop RPG, the game aims to provide players with a vast amount of freedom by constantly presenting them with meaningful choices. As a result, Baldur's Gate 3 offers an extensive range of possible endings and nearly limitless replayability.
Baldur's Gate 3 is currently available for PC and is set to release on September 6 for PS5, while an Xbox Series X/S version is also in the works.
