Unveiling the Astonishing Blend of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: A Minecraft-Inspired Adventure!

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet showcases a surprising level of inspiration from Minecraft, surpassing players' initial expectations The game cleverly incorporates Minecraft Pokemon and utilizes Minecraft's diverse biomes to enhance the gaming experience

Highlights

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have been compared to Minecraft due to their emphasis on exploration and crafting mechanics.

The Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet known as the Nacli line have playfully earned the nickname "Minecraft Pokemon" because of their square and boxy forms. Blueberry Academy, the new school introduced in Scarlet and Violet, showcases landscapes that strongly resemble the biomes discovered in Minecraft, further highlighting the resemblances between these two games.

Certain video games often draw inspiration from or bear resemblance to others, sometimes by mere coincidence. Nintendo and Sega provide prime examples, with Sonic the Hedgehog taking inspiration from Super Mario over the course of several decades. Yet, many instances of such influences may remain undisclosed unless explicitly stated by the developers. This brings us to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Consequently, fans tend to assume or jest about similarities between different games. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have garnered comparisons to Mojang's immensely popular sandbox game, Minecraft. These comparisons and jokes have been circulating among fans ever since the entire Paldea Pokedex was leaked. However, recent information about Scarlet and Violet only reinforces these resemblances, making them increasingly difficult to overlook.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's "Minecraft" Pokemon

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have drawn comparisons to Minecraft due to their emphasis on exploration and inclusion of crafting mechanics. However, the references to Minecraft in relation to Generation 9 do not stem from the gameplay itself. Rather, players have noticed the resemblance between the square shapes of the Rock Salt Pokemon Nacli and its evolutions Naclstack and Garganacl to the pixelated, blocky style of the popular sandbox game. Despite these shapes being inspired by rough salt crystals, players have humorously dubbed the Nacli line as "the Minecraft Pokemon."

Typically, the inspirations behind Pokemon designs are kept secret, with only occasional lighthearted references made by the developers. Therefore, it remains unknown whether Minecraft influenced the creation of Nacli. Nonetheless, the upcoming DLC titled The Indigo Disk for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet introduces a new location that only fuels the jokes and comparisons to Minecraft.

How Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Makes Use of Minecraft's Biomes

In Blueberry Academy, a new school in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero for trainers, players of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have the opportunity to explore a diverse terrarium at the heart of the academy. This terrarium consists of four distinct biomes: the sub-tropical savannah, lush coastal, rough and rugged canyon, and freezing polar biomes, as mentioned in the Pokemon Presents trailer.

Interestingly, all of these biomes are well-known and can also be found in Minecraft. For instance, the coastal biome resembles the plains biome in Minecraft, while Pokemon's savannah mirrors Minecraft's own savannah biome. Similarly, the rugged canyons in Pokemon bear resemblance to the forests and mountains found in the sandbox game. Both titles also feature their own version of tundra. Given the prevalence of these areas, it would be rare to come across a Minecraft player who hasn't encountered these biomes firsthand.

These areas are quite common in almost every video game, which could be seen as more of a coincidence rather than a genuine source of inspiration. However, it is still intriguing. It is worth noting that these resemblances to Minecraft have also been seen in the very first fully open-world Pokemon game, creating yet another similarity between these two games that cater to all age groups. As a result, it is highly likely to amuse many gamers. Game Freak might consider embracing these coincidences by including the Nacli line in some, if not all, of Blueberry Academy's biomes. The school's terrarium is still quite mysterious, and there may be some hidden secrets waiting to be discovered once the game is released. It's fascinating to know that all the environments are artificially constructed.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are currently available for the Nintendo Switch.
