Since Shakira and Gerard Piqué announced their split after 12 years together, she has been open about dealing with heartbreak.
“This is really tough to talk about personally, especially since this is the first time I’ve ever spoken about this in an interview,” the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer shared with Elle in a September 2022 feature. “I’ve chosen to stay silent and just try to process everything. ... It’s difficult to discuss it, especially because I’m still going through it, and because I’m in the spotlight and because our separation is not like a typical breakup.”
Shakira and the former FC Barcelona athlete, who started dating in 2011, shared in June 2022 that they have decided to go their separate ways.
In a joint statement, the couple, who never tied the knot during their long relationship, expressed their regret about the breakup. They emphasized the importance of their children's well-being as their top priority and requested privacy during this difficult time.
Shakira and Piqué have two sons together, Milan who was born in 2013, and Sasha who was born in 2015. They always put their kids' happiness first.

Understanding and expressing empathy is essential for artists. On the other hand, athletes often need to suppress empathy to stay focused on their competitive goals. This is why mixing artists and athletes romantically might not be the best idea. It's hard to say what I really need at this moment.

Despite this, Shakira emphasized the importance of self-love and acceptance, stating, "There comes a point when a woman no longer relies on others for validation, but instead focuses on discovering her true self.
