Over the past six years, Fortnite has achieved what many others haven't: remaining one of the most popular video games on the market. Although its controversial live-service approach persists, there's no denying its effectiveness. Fortnite's free-to-play model attracts new players in droves each year, while its paid cosmetics and Battle Pass consistently generate significant revenue. Given Fortnite's enduring popularity, it's unsurprising that other major intellectual properties have begun aligning themselves with the game's brand. In recent years, Fortnite has emerged as the central hub for all things pop culture in gaming. A multitude of franchises such as Star Wars, Marvel, DC, Halo, God of War, The Walking Dead, Resident Evil, and many more have all crossed paths with Fortnite multiple times and there seems to be no end in sight for these collaborations. However, while Fortnite has had numerous crossovers, not every partnership appears to be a perfect fit. The latest collaboration with Transformers may leave some fans feeling a bit perplexed.
Fortnite's Battle Bus Transformer Reveal Is a Strange One
Fortnite's collaboration with Hasbro's Transformers franchise continues with the latest movie, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. This crossover has been well received so far, offering players a new Cybertron Cannon weapon, Transformers-themed quests with emote and spray rewards, and an Optimus Prime skin as the ultimate Battle Pass reward. Additional items, such as the Optimus Primal skin, are available for purchase with V-Bucks.
Despite the current Fortnite Season coming to an end in a month, Epic Games shows no signs of ending their partnership with Transformers. In October, a Transformers cosmetic pack will be released physically in stores and digitally in Fortnite's shop. This pack introduces three new Transformers skins, including the popular characters Bumblebee and Megatron, designed in their classic Gen 1 appearances. The inclusion of a third skin in the bundle brings an unexpected surprise for fans.
Instead of being based on well-known Transformers characters like Starscream or Jazz, Fortnite's upcoming Transformers cosmetic pack features a unique twist - a Transformers-themed version of the game's famous blue and yellow Battle Bus. At first glance, this idea seems incredibly exciting. Transformers is known for its thrilling reveals, where something familiar turns out to be a robot in disguise, and this Battle Bus skin accomplishes just that. Additionally, the skin itself is visually impressive, maintaining the iconic color scheme of the game and incorporating essential details like the yellow tubing and bus decals.
However, the Fortnite x Transformers Battle Bus skin falls short in one significant aspect: it is not an actual Transformer. According to Fortnite's official website, the Battle Bus is not recognized as an official Transformers character, which feels like a missed opportunity. Epic Games is typically adept at marketing and crossover collaborations, but in this case, it appears they may have overlooked an opportunity.
Although the skin itself is impressive, Epic Games missed an opportunity to amplify the crossover's impact by collaborating with Hasbro to create official Transformers toys inspired by the design. This would have attracted even more attention to the crossover. Additionally, simply featuring the Battle Bus as an official Transformer would have significantly heightened the crossover's significance and relevance for fans of both franchises.
Fortnite can be played on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
