The Final Shape expansion in Destiny 2 will take place primarily at The Pale Heart, the main location for the events. This new environment will present players with numerous obstacles and challenges, but they will have the support and guidance of the Vanguard mentors and other allies of the Traveler throughout Destiny 2, including the beloved Cayde-6.

The Pale Heart is situated on the opposite side of the portal constructed by the Witness using the Veil and the Traveler during the Lightfall campaign's conclusion. The Veil still remains largely mysterious in terms of its powers and the Witness's intentions for its use. Similarly, little is known about the Traveler in this context. However, once players are able to follow the Witness through the portal, these questions are likely to be answered. The portal created by the Witness seems to function as a bridge, directly linking the inner workings of the Traveler to the surrounding world.

The Pale Heart Is the Beginning and End of Destiny’s Entire Light and Darkness Saga

Upon first arriving at the Pale Heart, players can anticipate a fusion of iconic locations from both the original Destiny and Destiny 2’s evolving narrative. However, be prepared for unique twists and the inclusion of new destinations. From what has been revealed, the Pale Heart will embrace the essence of the old Tower, the enigmatic Dreaming City, and the ominous Pyramid ships of the Darkness. Alongside these recognizable backdrops, players will also encounter a mix of returning and fresh locales.

In the Pale Heart, there will be significant differences compared to the original locations players are familiar with. The Traveler's perspective forms the basis for everything in the Pale Heart, resulting in some details being lost or misinterpreted. As players venture deeper into the Pale Heart, these returning locations will become increasingly discordant and unravel. By the end of the expansion, things will be in extreme chaos. Another twist is the unknown influence of the Witness within this domain. Alongside the forces of Darkness, such as the new Subjugator enemy type, players can expect locations based on the Witness' journey that they have yet to experience. This means that the Pale Heart will continuously evolve as players progress through The Final Shape's campaign.

The Pale Heart, both literally and metaphorically, is a significant part of the Traveler. It is named so because of its connection to the Black Heart, which was created by the Vex in their attempt to recreate the Traveler's power for themselves. Although the Black Heart managed to replicate the Traveler, it ultimately failed to harness its power and was destroyed by the Guardians. Despite numerous attempts by enemies of the Traveler to revive it, the Black Heart has remained dormant. However, with the Witness using the Veil to wield the power of the Traveler's Pale Heart, there is a possibility that the Black Heart may resurface during Destiny 2's Final Shape Expansion.
