Blanco, a renowned music producer and songwriter, has collaborated with top-tier artists such as Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry, Kesha, Britney Spears, Rihanna, and Kanye West. Impressively, Blanco has also worked on tracks with two of Gomez’s former partners: Justin Bieber and The Weeknd.

How Did Benny Blanco Get Started in the Music Industry?

Upon graduating from high school in 2006, Blanco made the move to Brooklyn, New York, where he crossed paths with rapper Spank Rock and found himself immersed in a lively party scene. The two hit it off and soon collaborated on a Bangers & Cash EP that drew the interest of Dr. Luke. Subsequently, Luke took Blanco under his wing.

“I was completely inexperienced when it came to songwriting. My beats were quite short, only around 40 seconds,” Blanco explained to The New York Times in 2018. “I wasn’t able to sit down and perform a full concert for you, or impress you with my skill on any instrument. But what I could do was understand an artist, determine the type of song I believed we should create, and act as their confidant, making sure everyone felt at ease.”

What Does Benny Blanco Think of His Career?

"I don't see myself as anything special. I consider myself a loser," Blanco admitted to NME in April 2021. "I wouldn't ever claim to be a successful hitmaker. I'm the person who comes in with the goal of creating music from a place of genuine emotion and giving it my all, because if I'm not doing that, what's the point?"

He clarified that his aim is to produce music that doesn't conform to what's popular on the radio, but instead tailor it to each unique artist.

Has Benny Blanco Worked With Selena Gomez Before?

Blanco and Gomez's initial encounter was in 2015 when they worked together on her songs "Same Old Love" and "Kill Em With Kindness." After teaming up again for "I Can't Get Enough" four years later, Blanco collaborated with Gomez once more earlier this year, contributing to the production of her pop music comeback, "Single Soon."
