The new heist movie "Lift" featuring Kevin Hart and directed by F. Gary Gray has arrived on Netflix. Below, we provide a breakdown of the film's ending.
F. Gary Gray is a versatile filmmaker known for a range of work, including the 1995 comedy classic "Friday", the NWA biographical drama "Straight Outta Compton", and 2017’s "The Fate of the Furious". Kevin Hart, a renowned comedian, brings his distinctive sense of humor to his roles, even in more serious titles like "Fatherhood" and "True Story".
The duo has joined forces for the new heist film Lift, with Hart at the forefront of a talented ensemble cast featuring Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D’Onofrio, Sam Worthington, and Jacob Batalon. The synopsis reveals: "An international crew of thieves, led by Cyrus Whitaker (Hart), race to steal $500 million in gold from a passenger plane at 40,000 feet."
Now that Lift is available for streaming on Netflix, here's everything you need to know about the ending. Warning: Major spoilers ahead!
Lift ending explained
The conclusion of Lift sees a resolution to all the loose ends: the villain Lars Jorgensen (Jean Reno) has been taken into custody; Abby (Mbatha-Raw) is now with Cyrus and his heist crew, having stepped down from her role as an Interpol agent following a betrayal by her boss Huxley (Worthington); and the team comes together to disclose to Abby that they have acquired the $500 million gold.
Cyrus and Abby end up sharing a kiss, fueled by their romantic history and palpable sexual tension. To add a positive twist, Cyrus reveals to Abby that he discovered who stole the painting at the school her mom worked at, knowing it's the reason she entered the crime-fighting world in the first place.
In Lift, we discover early on that Cyrus and his team of geniuses are like the Robin Hoods of the art world, stealing art and money from billionaires they believe "don’t deserve it." Despite their noble intentions, their actions are illegal, prompting Interpol agent Abby to pursue them.
NetflixAbby and Cyrus are faced with a new challenge as they are directed to join forces by Abby’s boss Huxley. Huxley instructs Abby to utilize Cyrus and Co in order to thwart a more dangerous and malevolent crime being orchestrated by Jorgensen. It is revealed that Jorgensen is colluding with the hacker group Leviathan to launch attacks on water sources worldwide, having also manipulated stock and utility markets.
In brief, Leviathan had the power to cause catastrophic floods or droughts, resulting in the deaths of millions – all for the benefit of Jorgensen. As the plot is so sinister, Leviathan demanded payment in gold to avoid detection by authorities. Abby's task is to stop the gold from reaching its destination by enlisting Cyrus and his team. In return, their criminal records will be expunged.
The mission starts off smoothly, but Jorgensen's henchmen eventually intervene. The situation looks dire for the crew, especially after they accidentally crash their (borrowed) private jet onto Jorgensen's property, with the gold bars landing right on his doorstep.

Jorgensen’s malicious plans are foiled
Jorgensen holds them all at gunpoint. As time runs out, he commands the Leviathan boss to commence work. When she refuses, he fatally shoots her. Before he can harm Cyrus or Abby, the local police arrive – but they're uncertain about who the true culprit is.
Fortunately, Cyrus' colleagues Denton (played by Vincent D'Onofrio), Luke (Viveik Kalra), and Mi-Sun (Yun Jee Kim) managed to capture the entire event on film and showcase the footage on the jet's fuselage. The police then arrest Jorgensen, as Cyrus mocks him with, "Enjoy prison."
After learning that Huxley was not responsible for preventing the NATO jets from sabotaging their heist, Abby immediately resigns from her position at Interpol and joins Cyrus and his team.
Cyrus and Abby head to a mysterious destination in the concluding scene, where he divulges the truth about the events. In addition to unveiling the identity of the culprit who took the painting from her mother's school and confessing his feelings for her, he shocks her by admitting, "We stole the gold."
NetflixHuxley is left with nothing
As it turned out, although the majority of the plan had been outlined, there was one aspect she was unaware of: while she and Cyrus were dealing with Jorgensen’s henchmen in the air, Magnus (played by Billy Magnussen) pulled a switcheroo, exchanging the $500 million loot for gold-painted iron bars.
Adding to the surprise, it was revealed that Luke (played by Viveik Kalra) had not abandoned the mission as it appeared, but was actually responsible for guiding the gold to a secret location using a parachute. As Cyrus reveals all of this to Abby, the scene shifts to Huxley realizing he has been left with a large quantity of cheap iron - much to his displeasure.
In the dramatic conclusion, the entire team comes together to recover the gold bars from the lake. Abby and Cyrus exchange a kiss before the group revels in their triumphant victory. The ending is clever, neatly tying up the story while also hinting at the possibility of a new adventure if Gray and Netflix decide to move forward with a Lift sequel.
