Introducing Cyberpunk 2077: No Coincidence, an intriguing novel that unravels within the sprawling metropolis of Night City. This captivating narrative delves into the precarious circumstances faced by a diverse ensemble of individuals, compelled to join forces in an audacious heist entangling none other than Militech, the formidable organization.
The novel is a product of the expanding Cyberpunk 2077 universe, which is branching out into various forms of media. Notably, it has been well-received in the form of a Netflix animated series and comic books.
As the game's sequel is being helmed by the director of Phantom Liberty and the DLC is the sole substantial expansion planned, fans can anticipate further exploration of the Cyberpunk 2077 world through mediums such as this novel.
Released in late 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 faced a highly controversial launch, receiving mixed feedback from gamers and critics due to numerous performance issues. Despite the initial setbacks, the developer persevered and diligently worked on improving and fixing the game over a span of several years. Now, after more than two and a half years, the release of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty marks the culmination of the game's redemption journey. Prior to the announcement of the DLC, various tie-in media have been introduced to expand the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.
These tie-ins include comic books, a well-received Netflix animated series, and an updated version of the tabletop RPG. Adding to the collection, a new novel titled Cyberpunk 2077: No Coincidence is set to be released later this month. Understandably, fans are curious about the content and storyline of this upcoming book.
What is Cyberpunk 2077: No Coincidence
Currently, much remains unknown about the novel, but fans have a general understanding of its content. Similar to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the story primarily unfolds in Night City, focusing on a group undertaking a heist involving Militech, a powerful organization in the Cyberpunk universe.
This fresh ensemble consists of a renegade veteran, an undercover Militech operative, a novice netrunner, a corporate negotiator, a skilled ripperdoc, and a tech expert. However, the intriguing twist lies in the fact that none of these characters know each other, forced into collaboration by a mysterious boss who possesses blackmail material on each individual. To maintain the secrecy of their own secrets and successfully execute the upcoming tasks imposed by their manipulative boss, the group must navigate the challenges of cooperation and mutual trust.
Cyberpunk 2077: No Coincidence Continues The Series' Expansion Into Other Media
The release date for the book is scheduled for August 8th, 2023, which is just over a month ahead of the release date for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. According to the listing on Amazon, customers can expect to pay $24.99 for a hardcover copy or $17.99 for a paperback copy. Those who prefer the Kindle version can purchase it for $9.99. Additionally, the book spans 416 pages when in print.
In addition to the novel, the game has already generated tie-ins in various other media formats, each with a different level of popularity. Among these, the animated Netflix series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners stands out as the most well-known. It has been highly acclaimed by both audiences and critics, receiving praise even from renowned game creator Hideo Kojima, who described it as "Awesome" and "Great". Some have gone as far as attributing Cyberpunk: Edgerunner's success to the resurgence of the main game.
Night City, the setting of the main game, saw the release of several comic books that took place around the same time period. Among them, an early comic focused on Trauma Team and their experiences within the dystopian world. On the other hand, the most recent comic titled Cyberpunk: Blackout depicted a power outage in the city, exploring the consequences and opportunities that arose from the disaster. It remains to be seen how Cyberpunk 2077: No Coincidence will compare to these previous tie-ins.
The future of the franchise looks promising. The director of Phantom Liberty will lead the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, but production is not expected to begin until after the planned release of the Witcher sequel. Furthermore, the DLC will serve as the primary expansion for the game, meaning that fans may have to rely on other forms of media tie-ins for a while. Let's hope that Cyberpunk 2077: No Coincidence and future novels and comics meet expectations.
