Taylor Swift, also known as the chairman of the Tortured Poets Department, has recently shared some tips on how fans can best enjoy her 11th studio album.
Through a social media post on the official department intern (Taylor Nation’s X page), the details of the upcoming "board meeting agenda" on Friday, April 19 at midnight have been revealed. This includes the purpose of the event, discussion topics, and a list of essentials to bring to any listening parties.
The message instructs the intern to start the meeting and for department members to stream the chairman's manuscript from Swift's LP The Tortured Poets Department. Everyone should sign into their preferred streaming platform and press play together to review the evidence as a team. Before joining the meeting, relaxed poets are encouraged to seek inspiration from their tortured muse.
As Swift contemplates the tracks listed as "12 a.m. discussion topics" on the agenda, she also provides advice on what fans should prepare. This includes having a listening device, a department-issued uniform, talismans, charms, snacks (since it will be late at night), and a dictionary on hand for the meeting.
With Taylor Nation’s agenda proclaiming that a dictionary will be necessary to appreciate TTPD, fans have been theorizing how that corresponds to the record’s lyrics.
"I'm also a bit worried because it seems like I'll need a dictionary as an international fan," shared one person on social media. "I thought my English was good, but I'm prepared with a Cambridge dictionary."
Another person commented, "I'll have to get a dictionary and thesaurus before this album comes out. Thanks, Taylor Alison Swift."
Taylor Swift is famous for her clever lyrics, which often include fancy phrases and unusual words in her songs. When 1989 (Taylor’s Version) was released in November 2023, Swifties rushed to their dictionaries to find the meaning of “surmise” after it was briefly mentioned in “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version).”
At that time, an X user commented, "Only Taylor Swift could come up with a rhyme like blue eyes and surmise. She probably knows how to rhyme the word orange too."
A fan jokingly said, "I can't believe Taylor Swift came up with the word 'surmise.'" It's not just Swifties who recognize the pop star's cleverness, but her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, also understands it.
Kelce, 34, admitted to WSJ. Magazine in a November 2023 profile that he has never been one to express himself well in words. He expressed his admiration for Taylor's intelligence, describing it as truly eye-opening and inspiring. Every day, he finds himself learning from her.
Since the summer of 2023, Kelce has been in a relationship with Swift. He had the privilege of listening to some of her new album, TTPD, before its official release. During a press conference for Super Bowl LVIII in February, he shared his excitement, calling the album unbelievable. Kelce eagerly anticipates the moment when Taylor will captivate the world with her music.
The Tortured Poets Department will be released on Friday, April 19.
