In Honkai: Star Rail's version 1.3 update, two new playable characters from The Xianzhou Luofu, Dan Heng - Imbibitor Lunae and Fu Xuan, have been introduced. Players may have encountered them during their Trailblazer's journey in this world and might already have a favorite character in mind. However, the gameplay aspects are more complex than they initially appear, making the decision of which character to choose not as straightforward.

Fortunately, in this version, the decision-making process is easier compared to previous updates that introduced characters with similar roles. Imbibitor Lunae and Fu Xuan have completely different functions and belong to different elements. Therefore, players are advised to consider their current character roster and various factors related to their specific gameplay preferences before making a decision. This approach can help players save resources, especially if they plan to summon for other upcoming characters in future versions of Honkai: Star Rail.

Imbibitor Lunae Or Fu Xuan In Honkai: Star Rail

Knowing that both characters are valuable additions to players' character rosters, thanks to their unique abilities and strengths, is reassuring. However, in this version update, even with the abundance of Stellar Jade available, players who invested their sources in the previous patch to obtain Kafka or Blade may find themselves lacking resources to summon both Imbibitor Lunae and Fu Xuan. Nevertheless, players can base their decision on which role aligns better with their gameplay preferences, as Imbibitor Lunae focuses on a DPS-oriented playstyle while Fu Xuan primarily serves as a defensive-oriented support character.

Additionally, it's important to consider that both of these characters have their own strengths and weaknesses. Paying attention to these aspects will help maximize the potential of the chosen character.

Roles

Imbibitor Lunae is a character from the Destruction path with an Imaginary type, specializing in both single-target and AoE DPS. Similar to Blade, he relies on enhanced basic attacks for damage. However, Imbibitor Lunae has a unique playstyle. Players have the option to strengthen their basic attacks up to three times, resulting in a significant increase in damage with impressively high modifiers. It's important to note that enhancing his basic attacks requires spending a Skill Point for each enhancement. Luckily, Imbibitor Lunae has an additional mechanic that grants him Squama Sacrosancta stacks after using his Technique or Ultimate. These stacks can be used instead of Skill Points to enhance his basic attacks, allowing players to manage this resource more efficiently. With manageable high modifiers and the distinction of being the first Imaginary element DPS character, Imbibitor Lunae introduces players to a new approach for dealing with substantial Imaginary damage.

Fu Xuan: The Supportive Quantum Preservation Character

Builds

In comparison to Imbibitor Lunae, Fu Xuan may not wield significant DPS potential, but her strengths lie in providing substantial support capabilities. As a Quantum Preservation character, her main focus revolves around defensive gameplay. Unlike other Preservation characters like March 7th or Gepard, who create shields for themselves or their allies, Fu Xuan takes a unique approach. She mitigates a certain percentage of the damage received by all allies and absorbs it herself. Furthermore, her Skill activates the Matrix of Prescience state, which not only enables this damage mitigation and distribution but also offers additional benefits. During this state, allies gain resistance to crowd control debuffs, and Fu Xuan boosts the max HP of all allies while also increasing their Crit Rate. Additionally, her Ultimate allows Fu Xuan to deal AoE damage while simultaneously healing herself and her allies. Considering all these aspects, Fu Xuan not only functions as a Preservation character but also exhibits elements of Harmony and Abundance to some extent.

The optimal builds for both characters rely somewhat on luck, but players can easily customize them to fit their needs and team compositions, offering great versatility.

For Imbibitor Lunae, players can choose between the 2-piece sets of Wastelander of Banditry Desert or Musketeer of Wild Wheat, or even opt for the 4-piece versions of these sets. This choice will depend on their luck with main and sub-stats, as well as their specific team compositions. For example, players planning to assemble a mono Imaginary team may find the 4-piece Wastelander of Banditry Desert set more valuable. However, if they already have sufficient Crit Rate and Crit Damage values, mixing with other sets may prove more beneficial.

When it comes to planar ornaments, Imbibitor Lunae stands out with the "Rutilant Arena" ornament. To unlock its additional benefits, the wearer must have a 70% Crit Rate. However, Imbibitor Lunae's traces provide a natural Crit Rate, and certain Destruction light cones can also contribute to meeting this requirement. This makes it feasible for players who have acquired suitable pieces from these sets to efficiently and easily build him.

In contrast, Fu Xuan requires a specific set of relics and light cones because her scaling is based on HP rather than the DEF stat like other Preservation characters. This means players cannot simply swap out their gear for her. However, this difference doesn't necessarily pose a downside as Fu Xuan has access to viable sets like the "Guard of Wuthering Snow," which consists of four pieces. This set not only reduces the damage Fu Xuan takes but also restores her HP and Energy. Alternatively, players can choose to combine a two-piece set of "Guard of Wuthering Snow" with a two-piece set of "Longevous Disciple." For those who have been farming the "Genius of Brilliant Stars" for Seele or suitable pieces for Blade, building Fu Xuan may also be relatively easy.

Strengths and Weaknesses

- Fu Xuan's Versatility in Planar Ornaments

When it comes to planar ornaments, Fu Xuan outshines Imbibitor Lunae in terms of versatility. Fu Xuan has the advantage of being able to equip a diverse array of support-oriented pieces, with the top contenders being "Broken Keel" or "Fleet of the Ageless". Additionally, she also has access to a selection of light cones that significantly enhance her support capabilities for the entire team.
