Larian Studios has confirmed that players can respec their characters in Baldur's Gate 3, alleviating concerns about being stuck with regretful choices made early in the game. The game is shaping up to be a classic, full-fledged RPG with numerous side quests and a captivating story. The developers have revealed that the final release will include 174 hours of cutscenes, along with a variety of races, classes, and narrative paths to explore.
In anticipation of the game's official launch, which has already been available in early access since October 2020, Larian Studios will significantly expand the roster of playable races and classes for Baldur's Gate 3. This will result in a total of 11 races and 12 classes, along with an impressive selection of 46 subclasses. With such a vast number of options, players will have plenty of opportunities to experiment with different choices. However, during a recent YouTube livestream, the studio confirmed that players will have the ability to "reset your class and reinvest all of the levels" thanks to a special NPC within the game.
In order to accommodate the inclusion of multiclassing in Baldur's Gate 3, the decision to allow players to respec has been somewhat controversial within the D&D community. While this feature has the potential to create powerful character builds, it also runs the risk of players unintentionally creating weak and ineffective characters, leading to a less enjoyable gameplay experience. In order to address this, Larian Studios has decided to allow players to correct any mistakes they may make and also encourage experimenting with different class combinations throughout their 100-hour playthrough.
Initially set for release on August 31, the PC version of Baldur's Gate 3 has been rescheduled to launch on August 3. This adjustment in release date grants players additional time to immerse themselves in the game before the arrival of Bethesda's Starfield, which will begin early access on September 1, potentially diverting attention from Baldur's Gate 3. However, PS5 players will have to wait a bit longer, as the game's release date for that platform has been set for September 6. Unfortunately, Xbox Series console owners will not have the opportunity to play the highly anticipated RPG in the near future due to challenges faced by the developer in optimizing the game for Xbox Series S.
