Where to Use Dragon Claws?
In the skies and depths of Tears of the Kingdom, players will come across four dragons. These majestic creatures pose no direct threat to Link, but he can shoot them with arrows to obtain valuable items such as scales, claws, fangs, or horns. While scales and horn shards are relatively easier to obtain, players might face challenges when trying to acquire the elusive dragon claws.
Unlike in other parts of the game, the appearance of the dragons in Tears of the Kingdom is not tied to the in-game time. Instead, they follow a predetermined flight path that remains unchanged regardless of Link's location or activities, including fast traveling. In order to collect each of the dragon claws, players will need to venture into the vast skies and treacherous depths of this kingdom.
Farming Dragon Claws in TotK
To farm Dragon Claws from the four dragons, Link will need to fire an arrow at their hands or feet. To do this:
Use the paraglider to fly towards the dragon.
Drop a little with B-button so that Link is level with the dragon's hand.
Fire an arrow with ZR-button (time will slow down since Link will be in midair).
When the arrow hits its target, a luminous ball will emerge. Approach it and press the A-button to seize it.
In the event that players are unable to grasp the forming claw in time, it will descend to the ground. Fortunately, it will emit a glowing light upon landing, making it relatively easy to locate. Additionally, the air currents surrounding the dragon will propel Link upwards whenever he deploys the paraglider, allowing him to "bounce" towards the claw if necessary.
To maximize their success, players must aim for the dragon's hands or feet when attacking. Striking too high will result in obtaining a Dragon Scale instead.
All dragons have a cooldown period of 10 minutes. After acquiring a dragon claw, Link must wait for another 10 minutes before being able to gather additional dragon parts. It is important to note that this cooldown only applies during gameplay and cannot be bypassed by pausing the game. The most effective strategy is for Link to land on the dragon's back and remain there for the entire duration. However, caution must be exercised as three out of the four dragons can cause harm to Link if he is not equipped with the appropriate armor. In worst-case scenarios, a dragon may even freeze or shock Link before he gets close enough.
While not mandatory, possessing the Vow of Tulin and multiple Stamina Wheels can greatly facilitate dragon farming. The Tulin's power enables Link to approach the dragon with ease, and the additional stamina ensures that he can glide without tiring out too quickly.
How to Get Light Dragon's Talon
The Light Dragon gracefully soars through the skies above the vast expanse of Hyrule. Unlike her counterparts, she refrains from venturing into The Depths and poses no threat to Link. Players can easily locate her by ascending the majority of the Skyview Towers. Her flight path elegantly encircles the entirety of Hyrule, granting her a majestic view of the numerous Geoglyphs below.
The Light Dragon holds significant importance in the Dragon Tears Side Adventure and acquiring the Master Sword, unlike the other three dragons. If players visit Korok Forest without obtaining the Light Dragon, they can interact with the Great Deku Tree and receive the Side Adventure quest for the sword. This quest will provide a tracker for the Light Dragon, simplifying the process of locating her.
However, it is crucial to note that if players choose to complete the Side Adventure or acquire the Master Sword before assisting the Great Deku Tree, the quest tracker will be removed. Therefore, players who wish to collect all the parts from the Light Dragon may want to delay completing this quest.
How to Get Dinraal's Claw
The closest landmarks to the chasms where Dinraal can be found are:
East Akkala Plains: Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower (3493, 2019, 0188)
Sinatanika Shrine (3842, 2300, 0048)
Players should ensure they have flame-resistant armor before attempting to approach Dinraal in the Drenan Highlands. Failing to do so will result in Link being set on fire upon landing on Dinraal's back. The Flamebreaker Armor, available for purchase in Goron City, is a recommended choice. Alternatively, players can craft a Flameproof Elixir using Fireproof Lizards or Smotherwing Butterflies combined with a Monster Part.
Heat-resistant is not the same as flame-resistant. Wearing heat-resistant gear won't protect Link from Dinraal.
How to Get Naydra's Claw
Located in the eastern part of Hyrule, Naydra can be spotted soaring above the Naydra Snowfield Chasm before gliding towards the East Hill Chasm. As she nears the East Hill Chasm, she gracefully descends into the depths below.
The closest landmarks to the Naydra Chasms are:
Naydra Snowfield:Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower (3845, -1306, 0539)
Zakusu Shrine (3527, -1482, 0168)
East Hill:Kakariko Village (1822, -1002, 0112)
Players should ensure they have cold-resistant armor or consume a Chilly Elixir before approaching Naydra. Contact with Naydra's ice clouds will freeze Link unless he is properly equipped. Crafting Chilly Elixirs can be done by cooking Warm Darners or Summerwing Butterflies with a Monster Part. Alternatively, players can obtain the Snowquill Armor from Rito Village if they prefer wearing armor instead of relying on elixirs.
How to Get Farosh's Claw
Farosh can be located in the southern part of Hyrule, situated between the Gerudo Region and the Faron Region. It typically appears from the East Gerudo Chasm and then retreats to The Depths at the Hills of Baumer Chasm. Afterward, it makes a loop back to the East Gerudo Chasm.
The closest landmarks to Farosh's Chasms are:
East Gerudo:Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower (-2423, -2202, 0302)
Siwakama Shrine (-2445, -3345, 0041)
Hills of Baumer:Popla Foothills Skyview Tower (0602, -2118, 0098)
To safely approach Farosh, players must not only consider protection against extreme temperatures but also guard themselves against electricity and shock. One effective option is to upgrade the Desert Voe Set to level 2, which can be obtained from the Gerudo Secret Club in Gerudo Town and provides shock-resistance for Link. Another alternative is crafting Electro Elixirs using Thunderwing Butterflies or Electric Darners combined with a Monster Part.
Where to Use Dragon Claws?
Dragon Claws are essential Monster Parts that can enhance the effectiveness of cooked meals. By incorporating Dragon Claws or other Dragon Parts into the cooking process, players can create meals that provide a more potent and enduring boost to their Attack Power.
Additionally, Dragon Claws serve a crucial role in upgrading armor. However, players can only access armor upgrades once they begin assisting the Stable Trotters during their visits to the Great Fairies. Several armor sets necessitate the use of Dragon Claws for their enhancements.
Armor | Which Dragon? | Upgrade Level |
---|---|---|
Armor of the Wild | Naydra, Dinraal, Farosh | 2 |
Fierce Deity Armor | Naydra, Dinraal, Farosh | 2 |
