Baldur's Gate 3 offers players an exciting adventure filled with numerous romantic opportunities. Players have the option to form connections with various characters, including both companions and NPCs, for romantic encounters. Among the potential romance options is the druid Halsin of the Grove, known for the controversial bear sex scene that gained attention during the game's Early Access phase. This wood elf druid prioritizes nature, balance, and compassion, making it a difficult task to win their affection.
Note: This guide includes significant plot spoilers for Act 2 of Baldur's Gate 3.
How to Rescue Halsin in Baldur's Gate 3
Players in Baldur's Gate 3 can choose to meet Halsin in Act 1. Halsin is the archdruid of the Grove, which is currently under attack by goblins. To pursue a romantic relationship with him, players must first rescue him from the goblin camp located at the Worg Pens (x:401, y:-23). However, freeing Halsin requires eliminating the threat to the Grove.
To accomplish this, the party must defeat three goblin leaders: the Drow elf Minthara (x:334, y:44), the Absolute's priestess Gut (x:298, y:-16), and Drog Ragzlin (x:296, y41). It is also possible to collect an Illithid worm from each of these leaders. After killing them, players should return to Halsin's cell in the Worg Pens. Halsin will then return to the camp and become a permanent member, although he will not join the player's party immediately.
How to Get Halsin in Your Party in BG3
In the cursed lands of shadows lies the Last Light Inn, a significant location where players will encounter Isobel and Jaheira, a hero known from previous Baldur's Gate games. To unlock the opportunity of romancing Halsin, players must ensure the completion of the quest chain by following these steps.
Within the Inn itself, on the first floor, lies Art Cullagh, a young man who has been in a deep slumber for the past century. His precise coordinates are x:-66, y:126. Despite being unresponsive when spoken to, he persistently sings a sleep-induced melody about a boy named Thaniel, a name that players have previously come across in relation to Halsin.
Visit the party's camp and converse with Halsin regarding Art and Thaniel. Halsin will relocate to the Last Light Inn.
Afterwards, return to the Last Light Inn and engage in a discussion with Halsin, who will task players with a quest to discover a crucial item capable of awakening Art.
The House of Healing is where the item needed to wake Art can be found. Keep an eye out for a cursed humanoid named Malus Thorm, who masquerades as a "doctor" and can be found dissecting someone in the surgical theater. Players have the option to confront him in battle or, by passing a Religion check, offer him as the next victim to the nurses. Either way, retrieve the lute from his lifeless body. x:200, y:49
Go back to the Last Light Inn and have a conversation with Halsin. Strum the lute, and Art will awaken.
Engage in a discussion with Art, and then return to speak with Halsin once more. He will request that the player's group rendezvous with him just outside the barrier encompassing the Last Lake Inn. Head towards the northern coast, specifically at coordinates x:-72, y:211.
Halsin plans to create a portal to retrieve Thaniel, and he requires the player's party to protect it. The objective is to safeguard the portal, which only has 150 life, for three rounds while facing continuous attacks from undead and haunted creatures. The most effective strategy for victory involves using ranged magic and attacks to eliminate the enemy ranged units. Additionally, Shadowheart should position her Guardian Spirits to emit Radiance damage around the platform. Radiance damage proves highly lethal to almost any shadow creatures that pass through it.
Once Halsin returns, he will bring Thaniel's body, but a problem arises. Speaking to Halsin once again at the Last Light Inn, he reveals that a part of Thaniel's soul is missing. At this point, Thaniel becomes a companion and departs from the player's BG3 camp.
The House in Deep Shadows, positioned at x:77, y:37, is where the other half of Thaniel's soul resides. Oliver, as this half is known, invites the player's party for a playful interaction.
To persuade Oliver to come to the Last Light Inn and join forces with Thaniel, a effective approach is to inquire if he is familiar with Thaniel. Subsequently, guide Oliver through the portal he creates, where he will need to defeat all the shadows he summons. Engage in a conversation with Oliver following the battle, emphasizing that with Thaniel, he will always have a comrade to play with.
Once Oliver is convinced to reunite with Thaniel, return to the Inn and have conversations with Thaniel, Halsin, and Art. Thaniel will disclose that he alone cannot lift the curse entirely - the other half is possessed by one of the Chosen Three: Ketheric Thorm. To begin restoring the curse, players must undertake the quest chain at Moonrise Towers and eliminate Thorm. Once Thorm is defeated, the curse will gradually dissipate. Halsin expresses his desire to accompany the party to Baldur's Gate.
How to Romance Halsin in Baldur's Gate 3
The completion of all the quests mentioned above will allow the hulking Druid to finally divert his attention away from the curse. Failing to finish his quest line before progressing to Act 3 will permanently prevent players from engaging in a romantic relationship with Halsin. Furthermore, if the cutscene depicting the removal of the shadow curse fails to play when transitioning from Act 2 to Act 3, Halsin's affection will remain unattainable.Next, players will want to have Halsin in their party; he is a fan of anything that is kind or promotes balance. Make sure to keep him happy with such choices as:
Being kind to the pig locked in the Requisitioned Barn in Rivington. Don't call it bacon or attack it.
Donating or helping out any of the refugees.
Bring him to the love dryad at the Circus in Rivington (x:-58, y:-56). Opt for the conversations "Comfort is not his strong suit," "Defending his Grove," and "Permitting the shadow curse to afflict nature for a century." He will positively respond to each of these selections.
While at camp, ensure that you explore all of his dialogue choices, paying particular attention to inquiring about his past romantic relationships.
Once his approval is high enough, an overnight stay at the camp will finally trigger his love scene in Baldur's Gate 3.
If players are already in a romantic relationship, Halsin will kindly request the player to seek their partner's approval before initiating a romance. The druid is open to polyamorous relationships and is accepting of the fact that the avatar already has a significant other. Some companions, like Shadowheart and Astarion, are comfortable with sharing their romantic interests, while others, such as Gale and Karlach, may not be open to the idea. If players genuinely desire a romantic relationship with Halsin, they may need to end their current relationship before proceeding into Act 3.
