The story of Baldur's Gate 3 is divided into three Acts, each representing a different part of the open world. However, players cannot access the city of Baldur's Gate until Act 3. This leaves many players wondering about the quickest route to reach Baldur's Gate and progress to Act 3.
Unfortunately, there is only one way to reach Act 3. Players must first complete the main story of Act 2, which will then lead them to the Road to Baldur's Gate. However, caution is advised, as attempting to reach Baldur's Gate too early will result in encountering an army that blocks passage. Follow this guide to discover how to access Act 3 in Baldur's Gate 3 and ultimately reach the city itself.
How To Get To Act 3 & Reach Baldur's Gate
In order for players to access Act 3 in Baldur's Gate 3, they must complete a few necessary tasks beforehand. Skipping directly to Act 3 from Act 1 is not possible since BG3 is not a fully open-world game. Additionally, there is only one entrance to Baldur's Gate from Act 2, while there are multiple paths to reach Act 2 from Act 1.
To proceed, players must first reach Act 2 and successfully complete the main story questline of the region. Once this is accomplished, the transition point to Baldur's Gate proper will be unlocked.
First, Complete Act 2 By Finishing Moonrise Towers
Once players reach Act 2 and progress to the Last Light Inn, they will uncover the whereabouts of Moonrise Towers - the central command hub for General Ketheric Thorm and his seemingly immortal Absolute armies. The Gauntlet of Shar, an underground maze, is also intertwined with the Act 2 storyline. Ultimately, players will conquer both Moonrise Towers and Ketheric Thorm following their completion of the Gauntlet of Shar. Engaging in a series of revealing and impactful final events, the Act 2 narrative will reach its climax, leading the way for players to continue on their journey towards Baldur's Gate, just a short distance away.
Head Northwest to the Road To Baldur's Gate Waypoint
After finishing the Ketheric Thorm questline and clearing Moonrise Towers, the next step is to find the Road to Baldur's Gate Waypoint. Activating this Waypoint provides a convenient way to return to the transition point for Act 3, in case there are any unfinished quests or areas still to be explored.
From the Moonrise Towers Waypoint, located just north of the Towers, proceed directly west along the path. Eventually, players will reach a bridge near the map's edge. The path continues underneath the bridge, leading to a Waypoint and the transition point for Act 3.
Be cautious about arriving too early – a group of Level 9 Githyanki will ambush those who pass beneath a bridge near the Waypoint (in case you decide to oppose Vlaakith). Moreover, the transition point will be inaccessible until Ketheric Thorm is eliminated due to the Absolute's Armies blocking the path to Baldur's Gate. Once you have dealt with (or evaded) the Githyanki, proceed towards the Waypoint and contemplate your next course of action.
Wrap Up Quests, Pass Through The Transition Point To Act 3
With the Waypoint currently active, players will be faced with a significant decision. As they progress to Act 2, a majority of the Waypoints from Act 1 will still be accessible, allowing players to return and complete quests. However, upon entering Act 3, these previous waypoints will no longer be retained. Once the party arrives in Baldur's Gate, Act 2 and all preceding content will be inaccessible for the remainder of the game.
To ensure you don't miss out on any unfinished quests or important locations, use this Waypoint to return to the Road to Baldur's Gate. Once you reach Baldur's Gate, tasks such as finding Arabella's Parents, exploring the Githyanki Creche, and delving into the Mind Flayer Colony will no longer be accessible. Therefore, it is important to take the time to complete any remaining tasks before progressing further.
Baldur's Gate 3 is currently available on PC and will be released on PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2023. An Xbox Series X|S version is also currently in development.
