It may seem challenging to improve upon something that has already received high praise, but it is certainly not impossible. The reveal trailer for Hades 2 has already demonstrated promising elements, and if this momentum translates into an equally impressive game, success should be within reach.

Considering that Hades 2 is the first sequel from Supergiant Games, players should expect something extraordinary in store. The original Hades formula proved to be incredibly effective at captivating players, thanks to its combination of ever-shifting roguelike gameplay and a fascinating cast of characters. It is difficult to imagine Hades 2 not building upon the success of its predecessor. If anything, the focus should be on refining the game's mechanics to create an even better experience. There are already several areas where Hades 2 has the potential to make significant improvements.

Hades 2 Can Have Better Weapons Than the Original

To enhance player experience, an important goal for Hades 2 is to diversify its weapons selection. Although Zagreus had access to six weapons in the original game, unlocking five of them required Chthonic Keys. Starting with a sword, players could eventually wield a spear, shield, bow, gauntlets, and cannon. Furthermore, each weapon had three additional aspects that players could unlock with Titan's Blood, altering their functionality and moveset. While this system added longevity to the game, Hades 2 has the potential to refine and improve it.

Expanding the variety of weapons in Hades 2 would be advantageous. While the hidden weapon aspects in Hades did introduce significant changes, players often obtained them later in their gameplay, leaving less time to fully explore and utilize them. Hades 2 could address this by ensuring that alternate aspects not only provide different movesets but also offer substantial enhancements to make them worthwhile investments during gameplay. Additionally, broadening Melinoe's arsenal beyond Zagreus' original selection of six weapons would introduce more diversity to the game, allowing players to approach the adventure from various angles.

The Stygian Blade, Zagreus' starting weapon, exemplifies the problem at hand. Compared to the other weapons in Hades, it has the most basic moveset, which diminishes its impressiveness, even with its aspects. The only exception is its hidden aspect, Aspect of Arthur, which transforms it into a slow but immensely powerful weapon. To prevent Melinoe's dagger and sickle from encountering the same issue, they should have a more thrilling playstyle or unique aspects to maintain relevance throughout the game.

Expanding upon Hades' weapons and aspects is a significant opportunity for Hades 2. In terms of mythological weapons, Hades 2 can explore numerous directions that the first game did not. By introducing more weapons and dynamic aspects, Hades 2 can enhance the excitement of runs even more so than its predecessor. Alongside boons and hammer upgrades, players would have an abundance of options at their disposal. Improving the selection of weapons could be one of the most substantial enhancements that Hades 2 could undertake.
