Any card played after Wong can have devastating consequences, and the combination of Sauron followed by Shuri is usually a bad sign. It is possible to counter many discard decks early on if these warning signs are detected, and it is often predictable where a Knull card might be played in a deck focused on destruction. Control decks are not as popular in the current meta due to their limited power generation, but there is one new addition that has proven to be traumatizing when encountered.

Marvel Snap's Professor X is a cause for concern in almost every deck build. While players can still have tokens, discards, and revived cards appear at a Sanctum Sanctorum location even if they cannot play cards there, having Professor X completely lock down a location and prevent any addition or removal of cards can be incredibly frustrating, especially if players had plans to utilize that location later on. Players can consider themselves lucky if the cards at that location can gain Power passively, as in a High Evolutionary deck, but the debut of Alioth last season ensures that a second location can be locked down in a way that feels doubly disarming and restrictive during the final turn.

Marvel Snap’s Professor X and Alioth Combo is Nearly Impossible to Predict or Counter

Marvel Snap's Alioth is not only familiar to fans of Marvel comics, but its obscurity could even surprise the most devoted enthusiasts. It was introduced during Marvel Snap's recent Loki All the Time season and is often seen as a pseudo-antagonist in season one, appearing as a colossal purple storm that consumes time and space in the Void.

Just like its formidable portrayal, Alioth poses a significant threat in Marvel Snap due to its On Reveal ability. This ability allows Alioth to annihilate all cards played by the opponent at the same location during that turn. It even applies to cards that have not been revealed yet, meaning even a Hela cloaked by Invisible Woman or the Dark Dimension location can be destroyed, completely disrupting the opponent's strategy.

Considering the unpredictable and all-powerful nature of Alioth, combining it with Professor X can create a formidable control deck. Professor X has the ability to immobilize a specific location, leaving opponents with a mere 50% chance of being able to play cards in that location where Alioth is present, resulting in almost certain loss of both locations. Alioth is a 6-Cost 3-Power card, while Professor X is a 5-Cost 3-Power card, allowing fans to conveniently play these cards consecutively towards the end of a match.

However, players have various methods to prolong matches, reduce card Costs, and acquire additional Energy each turn. This only enhances the possibilities for players to employ their creativity in pairing Professor X and Alioth within a control deck. However, it should be noted that these two cards alone may not be enough to secure a location due to their lack of aggressive Power.

However, by strategically setting up and closely monitoring opponents' potential card placements, the combination of Professor X and Alioth can be highly formidable against builds that heavily rely on late-game opportunities. This is particularly true if players have already steered their control decks to limit opponents' options to just one or two locations. Moreover, when supplemented with other disruptive cards like Green Goblin, Hobgoblin, Killmonger, Daredevil, or Rogue, this build quickly becomes a daunting strategy that players will prefer to avoid.
