Herta, a character in Honkai Star: Rail known for her intelligence and enigmatic nature, excels as a sub-DPS thanks to her kit's ability to deal AoE damage in team compositions. The game's community has taken notice of her follow-up attacks, which are praised for their entertaining animations and voice acting in JP. Consequently, many players may be intrigued to try out her gameplay, especially since she is a free-to-play character and certain stages of the Simulated Universe grant her Eidolons as rewards.

In Honkai: Star Rail, understanding the elemental weaknesses of enemies is crucial in selecting the most suitable characters for specific content. Herta, an Ice character, presents an interesting option for players, especially if they lack access to other characters like Yanqing or Pela. While Herta may not possess the same level of damage-dealing capabilities as Jing Yuan, another Erudition character, her versatility and ease of use make her a valuable asset in various situations.
Herta, being a sub-DPS character, can easily fit into various team compositions without the need for a specific team built around her. However, it is still beneficial to find characters that can synergize well with her utility, especially since players will have to sacrifice an additional support character to accommodate Herta. An ideal team composition for Herta would consist of a main DPS, whether focused on single targets or AoE, along with a healer or defensive support. Additionally, including another offensive or defensive support based on the specific content would further enhance Herta's effectiveness.
Furthermore, Herta's ability to initiate consecutive attacks, particularly in the Simulated Universe mode, makes her an excellent match for DPS characters who possess the potential for follow-up attacks, such as Himeko, Jing Yuan, or Clara. When combined with the Elation path and its enhancements, Herta becomes exceptionally powerful and enjoyable. Additionally, in the Simulated Universe mode, players have the opportunity to explore a complete Ice team composition that also takes advantage of the Remembrance buffs. By pairing Herta with characters like Yanqing, Pela, and Gepard, players can partake in a unique gameplay experience where enemies are consistently Frozen and sustain significant damage each turn. While this approach may not be as suitable for other game modes, here are a few team compositions that can greatly benefit from incorporating Herta in a more versatile manner:
All Around Free-To-Play Comp
Herta, being a character that can be obtained for free, offers players the chance to enhance their gameplay by adding an additional level of difficulty to their F2P teams.
Main DPS: Serval
Sub-DPS: Herta
Defensive Support: March 7th / Fire Trailblazer
Healer: Natasha
Fortunately, players have access to a wide selection of free-to-play characters and light cones that can be used for different occasions, allowing them to fully experience the game without relying on gacha pulls. In this scenario, players may consider utilizing Serval as their primary DPS due to her high damage modifiers. Serval not only deals area-of-effect damage, but also applies Shock damage over time to enemies, which can compensate for the lack of an offensive support character who can either buff the team or debuff enemies. Additionally, Serval synergizes well with Herta, as they both deliver follow-up attacks, contributing to the team's overall damage output.
Alternatively, instead of using March 7th, players can opt for the Fire Trailblazer. This option offers more elemental coverage, which is advantageous in content that includes various enemy weakness types. It also contributes to area-of-effect damage without heavily relying on skill points. While this team composition may not be the most suitable for content that requires clearing within a limited number of turns, such as the Forgotten Hall, it can still be effective in other content without the worry of the team easily being defeated. However, achieving victory may take longer compared to teams focused on pure power and strong buffs.
Speedy Farming Team Comp
Himeko excels as the main DPS in this team composition, especially when it comes to farming easier content like Calyxes. She proves to be advantageous due to her ability to deal AoE damage and her exceptional speed, achieved by manipulating the Speed values during battles.
Sub-DPS: Herta
Offensive Support 1: Asta
In situations where there are waves of enemies or the enemy has the ability to summon more enemies, Himeko's offensive support becomes even more valuable. Since Himeko can only perform one follow-up attack per enemy (unless the enemy heals themselves above 50% HP), her kit becomes particularly useful. Pairing her with other characters like Asta, who excel at breaking enemy toughness, can greatly benefit Himeko's role as the primary DPS.
Moreover, in the role of a support character, Asta possesses the capability to not only amplify Fire Damage for both herself and Himeko, but also offer advantageous enhancements to the entire team by increasing ATK and Speed. When combined with Welt's proficiency in inflicting Imaginary DMG and reducing enemy speed, this team becomes incredibly proficient at consistently launching attacks before the opposing forces even have a chance to initiate their own. This is particularly noteworthy as the team does not heavily rely on defensive support characters and instead prioritizes swift elimination of enemies to minimize the damage incurred.
Honkai: Star Rail is now accessible on Android, iOS, and PC platforms, with a PlayStation version currently in the works.
