Dan Heng, a member of the Astral Express, is an early-game support character in Honkai: Star Rail. However, his value goes beyond just that. Although he may be more challenging to play compared to other Hunt characters, Dan Heng has the potential to excel as a main DPS or sub-DPS in various content, depending on the right balance of team utility and additional damage. Luckily, Honkai: Star Rail offers players a range of light cones, both free-to-play and otherwise, to aid in this endeavor.

Dan Heng doesn't have a strong preference for consistently focusing on the same target, but it's generally beneficial for him to concentrate on a boss. By reducing the enemy's speed, he can enhance his DPS output and deal more damage due to his kit. While Swordplay may not be useful in every battle, it helps Dan Heng increase his damage output as he keeps attacking the same target. This strategy is especially advantageous in boss battles where weaker enemies lack taunt abilities or other gameplay mechanics that necessitate attacking a different target.

Only Silence Remains features Dan Heng prominently in its artwork and is a solid 4-star gacha light cone option. However, its effectiveness is dependent on the battle situation. In battles with more than two enemies, Only Silence Remains may not reach its full potential since Dan Heng cannot benefit greatly from the light cone's secondary effect, which increases his Crit Rate. Nonetheless, Only Silence Remains provides an unconditional additional ATK%, which can benefit players in any content. Therefore, players should focus on reducing the enemy count first to maximize its benefits. To do so, players may want to consider using characters with AoE DPS capabilities, such as Welt, who can also slow targets, or Asta, who can target Dan Heng while casting her Ultimate. Nevertheless, acquiring the light cone's secondary effect can be challenging when facing enemies that regularly summon additional enemies, such as Cocolia.

Sleep like the Dead is a powerful tool that can significantly boost Dan Heng's DPS potential by increasing his Crit DMG and enabling more consistent critical hits. However, it's important to note that this light cone should not be specifically redeemed from the shop using 600 Undying Starlight, as there are better options available for other paths. Players can consider using the 4-star gacha options or Cruising in the Stellar Sea, which can perform similarly well when maximally superimposed, while conserving valuable resources.

Cruising in the Stellar Sea is a top-tier free-to-play option that offers players a chance to test their skills with only free-to-play choices. By completing Simulated Universe worlds and earning weekly rewards, players can easily obtain this light cone from Herta's Store and quickly level it up within a few weeks. This valuable item boasts a high Crit rate, particularly when the target's HP is below 50%. Additionally, Dan Heng's first eidolon provides an extra Crit rate if the target's HP is above 50%, ensuring that he maintains a consistently high Crit rate without focusing too much on his relics. Moreover, the final effect of the light cone is beneficial in situations where enemies are weak, as it helps Dan Heng deal more damage over several turns.

The In The Night light cone is a standout feature of the limited-time event and is closely associated with Seele. However, it also complements Dan Heng's abilities exceptionally well, with his high DMG multipliers and low energy cost for Ultimate moves allowing him to make the most of the extra effect provided by the light cone. Additionally, In The Night's emphasis on the Speed stat is highly advantageous for Dan Heng, as it provides a boost to his Crit Rate and enables him to launch multiple attacks in a single turn, especially when combined with his ability to slow down enemies. As a result, Dan Heng and In The Night make for a highly synergistic combination.
