Baldur's Gate 3, the popular RPG developed by Larian Studios, takes place in an authentic representation of the Forgotten Realms Dungeons & Dragons universe. During Act 1 of the game, players have the opportunity to explore the Underdark, a renowned D&D location filled with Drow, Duergar, Deep Gnomes, and countless ancient secrets.

While venturing through this underground realm, players might stumble upon three intriguing items: the Icy Crystal, Icy Helve, and Icy Metal. Despite their potential to be easily overlooked, each of these items is possessed by a Drow who is on the search for the Adamantine Forge. Additionally, their item descriptions imply that they can be combined with one another.

How to Find Icy Crystal, Icy Helve, and Icy Metal in Baldur's Gate 3

Players may easily overlook the Icy items in Baldur's Gate 3 as they explore the Underdark, as they are not marked as quest items and there is no quest to assemble them. If players are missing part of the set, here is where all three items can be found:

The Icy Helve can be found in the possession of the Drow Dhourn, one of the petrified victims of the Spectator to the west of the Selunite Outpost. If players manage to avoid killing Dhourn, they must immediately pick-pocket the Crystal from him, as he will leave the area permanently afterward.

The Icy Crystal was discovered in the possession of the deranged Drow named Filro the Forgotten, who resides near the Sussur Tree. Filro exhibits aggressive behavior and will not hesitate to attack players, accompanied by his pet Hook Horrors.

The Icy Metal was found next to the lifeless Drow's body within the treasure grove of the Myconids. To access this grove, players must first complete Sovereign Spaw's quest to eliminate the Duergar slavers found in the vicinity.

How to Craft Mourning Frost in Baldur's Gate 3

To craft the Mourning Frost Quarterstaff, a Very Rare magical item, players simply need to obtain all three Icy items and combine them. This can be done by right-clicking on one of the items, selecting "Combine," and then dragging the remaining two items into the available slots.

The Mourning Frost Quarterstaff is a potent magical staff that offers numerous benefits, particularly for spellcasters who focus on Cold damage. In addition to providing a +1 bonus to all Cold damage rolls made by the wielder, it also grants the wielder's Cold spells a chance to inflict the Chilled condition. Chilled causes the target to become resistant to Fire damage but vulnerable to Cold damage, resulting in any Cold damage they receive being doubled for the next two turns. Moreover, the Mourning Frost Quarterstaff grants the user access to the Ray of Frost cantrip and features a basic +1 enhancement to physical attack rolls.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available now on PC and is slated for a September 6, 2023 release for PlayStation 5.
