Mortal Kombat 1 is wrapping up its marketing cycle and features old villains in the re-engineered universe.
The latest Mortal Kombat 1 trailer unveils two unexpected characters, Motaro and Shujinko, showcasing the game's dedication to revitalizing every element of the Mortal Kombat experience. By featuring lesser-known characters from the franchise's past, Mortal Kombat 1 not only pays tribute to its rich history, but also provides them with an opportunity to stand out alongside beloved returning fighters.
Mortal Kombat 1 will be released soon, marking the end of its marketing campaign. A new trailer was unveiled at Gamescom 2023, showcasing gameplay and story scenes featuring Queen Sindel and General Shao. In this reimagined universe created by Fire God Liu Kang, these previously formidable villains are not as menacing. Nonetheless, it is exciting to witness their presence in a game that not only pays homage to Mortal Kombat's history but also looks ahead to an exciting future.
Additionally, the trailer revealed a few other noteworthy elements. Raiden, who has been shown in previous trailers since the announcement of MK1, finally receives some well-deserved attention. However, the spotlight is on the introduction of two new Kameo Fighters: the ferocious centaur Motaro and the skilled mimic Shujinko. While these characters may not appear significant on their own, they contribute to Mortal Kombat 1's overall package, demonstrating the game's commitment to revitalizing even the most peripheral aspects of the Mortal Kombat universe and making them relevant once again.
Motaro and Shujinko Are Surprising Additions to Mortal Kombat 1
Motaro and Shujinko, although not originally part of the Mortal Kombat trilogy's roster, are familiar to Mortal Kombat veterans. Motaro, standing alongside Goro and Kintaro, is considered one of the classic sub-bosses of the series and is known for his challenging abilities such as teleportation and immunity to projectiles.
Due to Motaro's deviation from the standard humanoid characters in Mortal Kombat, he has only appeared as a bonus character in a couple of games and was reduced to having two legs in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. On the other hand, Shujinko was the main character in Mortal Kombat: Deception's Konquest mode, where players were able to switch his fighting style with that of any other character at their preference.
Mortal Kombat 1 Wears Its Love of the Past On Its Sleeve
Even though neither of them is incredibly obscure, they have been around for quite some time and have only made brief appearances in the past decade of Mortal Kombat. However, this is still an improvement compared to some of the other playable characters in Mortal Kombat 1's roster. Shujinko, for instance, at least had a significant role as the protagonist, whereas Li Mei and Ashrah remained relatively unknown. In addition, there are other cameo fighters who have yet to make an appearance in the rebooted plot, such as Sareena and Darrius, who are practically unheard of even among the cameo characters. Understanding these character details and reputations helps to emphasize Mortal Kombat 1's intentions of reintroducing less popular characters alongside the main stars.Mortal Kombat 1 is dedicated to introducing the latest version of the MK universe while also ensuring that the franchise's rich past is not forgotten. In order to achieve this, older MK titles were mined for bosses, one-off protagonists, and even characters that were previously dismissed. It is noteworthy that no new fighters have been added thus far, as Mortal Kombat 1 focuses solely on reintroducing and reinventing existing characters.
Mortal Kombat 1, set with a clean slate, prominently features iconic elements from the Mortal Kombat franchise. This includes introducing 3D fighters such as Havik into the playable roster, along with the traditional colorful ninjas. Notably, familiar characters like Sonya Blade and Jax now stand alongside lesser-known fighters like Motaro and Shujinko, signifying a fresh start for character relevance. With Geras being the sole representative from the MK 2011 trilogy thus far, Mortal Kombat 1 effectively maintains its focus on reminding players of its rich history.
Mark your calendars for September 19 as Mortal Kombat 1 will be available on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
