How to Beat Midnight Raven
In the sixth quest of the main scenario of Final Fantasy 16, players will begin to get a sense of what lies ahead in the game. The Greatwood serves as a barrier between Clive and Lostwing, where the Dominant of Fire is rumored to have been spotted. However, the Greatwood is currently infested with monsters who have been driven there due to the spreading blight that is engulfing the realm.
As players progress through the quest "Fanning Embers" in Final Fantasy 16, they should be prepared to face multiple bosses and a significant number of enemies. This comprehensive walkthrough will provide players with all the necessary information to successfully navigate this quest.
This walkthrough contains spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.
Traverse the Greatwood
As players follow Cid through the Greatwood, they will encounter a sudden ambush by a pack of Worgen. Dispatching them efficiently is crucial in order to collect any valuable loot they may drop. After dealing with the threat, a short cutscene will reveal a massive creature making its way through the dense forest.
Keep moving forward and navigate through the hostile plant life in the vicinity. Accompany Cid as he leads the way and make sure to collect the Wyrrite on the ground to the left before proceeding any further. Utilize the 'X' button to bypass the tree that is obstructing the path, which will then trigger a captivating cutscene. Once the cutscene concludes, continue following Cid as he guides you under the exposed roots of a towering tree. Take the opportunity to collect the sharp fangs located on the right side.
After entering the clearing, players will face an encounter with a non-boss Dragon Aevis. Although not a formidable boss, players should still be cautious as it has the ability to be staggered and can unleash a dangerous spinning attack.
Once the Dragon Aevis has been defeated, players should continue to follow Cid as he leads the way through the Greatwood. Along the path, players will come across a Potion that they can collect. To access the Steelsilk, players should jump off the ledge and retrieve it. The path ahead is obstructed by a fallen tree, but Torgal will assist in identifying an alternative route. As a bonus, players can earn a trophy by petting Torgal multiple times. Proceed through the narrow crevice to reach a clearing where a group of enemies will launch an attack.
Once the area has been cleared, proceed through another narrow opening and collect the Potion that is conveniently located nearby. Continue along the path, descending into the remains of a dilapidated structure. The ensuing area is quite spacious, giving players a hint that a formidable boss battle may be imminent.
How to Beat Fafnir
Fafnir, a formidable creature resembling a large lizard, poses a challenge to players with its powerful swipe attacks using its massive claw-like arms. Evading Fafnir's assaults can be difficult due to its tendency to follow up with additional strikes. It is crucial to remain vigilant when the creature rolls onto its side.
As the boss's health diminishes, Fafnir employs a unique ability known as Spin Cycle. In this move, the creature curls into a ball and rapidly spins along the walls. Players should patiently wait for Fafnir to charge forward before swiftly dodging out of harm's way. It is important to note that a tail attack typically follows this maneuver, requiring players to be prepared. Upon defeating Fafnir, a captivating cutscene will unfold.
Find the Road
Once the cutscene concludes, proceed through the fissure in the wall directly ahead. Should players require healing after their encounter with Fafnir, there is a Potion located along the left side of the cave wall. Ascend the ledge and acquire the nearby High Potion while also relishing in the breathtaking scenery. The pathway extends towards the right, where a cluster of adversaries awaits.
Despite the expansive appearance of this upcoming area, the path ahead is relatively straightforward. Keep an eye out for a flowing stream of water and simply follow its course. Engage any adversaries encountered along the way and don't forget to search the chest located at the end of the stream. Proceed underneath the structure to continue onward until a cutscene initiates.
How to Beat Midnight Raven
Engage in a fierce battle as Clive and Cid find themselves confronted by enemy forces. Swiftly dispatch the lesser adversaries before directing your attention to the formidable boss, known as the Midnight Raven. Overcoming the Midnight Raven does not require anticipating any distinct attacks. Simply evade as many of its assaults as you can and aim to stagger it.
During the encounter with the Midnight Raven, players of Final Fantasy 16 will be introduced to the first Cinematic Clash, which serves as a tutorial. Similar to Cinematic Strikes and Evades, Cinematic Clashes require players to rapidly press the 'Square' button in order to succeed. To defeat the Midnight Raven, players will need to execute several of these Cinematic Clashes effectively.
After defeating the boss, a cutscene will ensue, followed by players finding themselves on the world map. In Final Fantasy 16, players have the option to return to the Hideaway if necessary or proceed to Orabelle Downs to embark on the next main scenario quest. The game is currently accessible on PlayStation 5.
