Unfortunately, no matter how skilled the player's character is in Sleight of Hand, Shadowheart wakes up as they attempt to retrieve the item, resulting in her becoming mistrustful. It is important to note that unlike the intellect devourer pet, Shadowheart is a permanent companion, so upsetting her will have consequences.
However, as the game progresses, the player can regain Shadowheart's trust. If they honestly explain their intentions, she will somewhat understand and not develop active dislike towards the player.
