In World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, the focus is once again on the elements, this time as the main enemies of the story. Dragons and elementals clash, although not all elemental forces are bent on causing destruction. Back in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, players met two characters who played a vital role during those dark times.
Elemental Lords in WoW are often the ultimate bosses, with Ragnaros the Firelord being particularly infamous. He served as the final boss in two different raids, solidifying his status as a renowned figure in gaming history. However, Ragnaros is not the only Elemental Lord. While Al'Akir, the Lord of Wind, chose to align with Deathwing, the other two Lords decided that they had enough of the chaos and instead aided in saving Azeroth. Given the critical situation at hand, they could easily lend their assistance.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm's Remaining Elemental Lords Could Be a Huge Help
Neptulon, the Tidehunter, and Therazane, the Stonemother, are the two powerful Elemental Lords. Throughout most of Azeroth's history, they have chosen to remain uninvolved in mortal matters. When the Titans arrived to imprison the Old Gods who had taken over Azeroth, they also banished the Elemental Lords to separate realms called the Elemental Planes. As a result, only a small number of elementals have remained on the planet, allowing mortals to thrive.
Therazane, in particular, harbors a dislike towards mortals. Players who have ventured into the dungeons of Classic World of Warcraft will recall encountering and defeating Theradras, a Princess of Earth, deep within Maraudon. The death of her daughter caused Therazane to hold a grudge against Azeroth's mortals, and it took a great deal of persuasion for her to offer her assistance. Eventually, players aided her in stabilizing the World Pillar, a structure that held her realm of Deepholm in place. In return, she helped defeat the Old God forces that posed a threat to Azeroth.
Despite her initially hesitance, Therazane's power has been harnessed for good, as her dislike of mortals is outweighed by her hatred of the Old Gods and their influence. It is possible that if the Primal Incarnates continue to recklessly use void magic, Therazane may intervene to demonstrate her rightful rule over stone and earth. If the heroes of World of Warcraft could convince the Stonemother that Azeroth faced real danger, she would, at the very least, send legions of elementals to aid the dragons in emerging victorious.
On a broader scale, Neptulon has resided in seclusion within his own domain, the Abyssal Maw, since the Cataclysm. However, this does not mean he has not aided mortals. Prior to and after Deathwing's defeat, the Tidehunter has dispatched his minions to assist the inhabitants of Azeroth. Despite rarely appearing, Neptulon has arguably made the greatest positive impact among all the Elemental Lords by freely bestowing his blessings and the allegiance of his elementals to those who safeguard Azeroth.
Content: Throughout Classic World of Warcraft, Neptulon's minions provided assistance to mortals in their battles against Ragnaros and C'Thun. In subsequent expansions such as Cataclysm and Battle for Azeroth, Neptulon took up arms against the Naga armies who aimed to eliminate Azeroth's heroes. Moreover, in World of Warcraft: Legion, Neptulon played a crucial role in aiding the Earthen Ring shamans in their monumental victory over the Legion. Considering Neptulon's extensive involvement, it is surprising that the Elemental Lord of water has yet to send his soldiers to aid in the battle against the Primal Incarnates.
Therazane and Neptulon, both being Elemental Lords, possess ancient power surpassing even that of the Primal Incarnates. Even though Ragnaros and Al'Akir have long been defeated, the Stonemother and Tidehunter prioritize the prosperity and stability of Azeroth above all else. In the event of an urgent situation, it would be logical for these two entities to intervene. At the very least, a cameo interaction or World Quest would be fitting, as World of Warcraft would be missing out on a tremendous opportunity by neglecting these two mystical characters.
