NetherRealm Studios has officially announced that Casey Edwards will be the composer for the soundtrack of Mortal Kombat 1. Edwards, who has previously worked on game scores for titles like The Division and Devil May Cry 5, will bring his musical talents to the highly-anticipated game.
Considered a soft reboot of the Mortal Kombat series, Mortal Kombat 1 is the latest installment in the franchise. Players will have the opportunity to delve into an alternate universe created by Liu Kang, experiencing thrilling events within this new world. One exciting addition to the game is the introduction of Kameo Fighters, a unique mechanic that allows NPC Kombatants to appear and assist players. These Kameo Fighters can be selected from a secondary roster, giving players the chance to mix and match the skills of different Kombatants alongside their main pick.
Recently, the studio responsible for Mortal Kombat 1 announced that Casey Edwards will be joining as the game's composer. This exciting news was shared on the game's Twitter page and confirmed by Edwards himself. In their official statement, the development team expressed their anticipation to hear Edwards' "Killer Kuts." Edwards, on the other hand, shared his immense enthusiasm for contributing to the original soundtrack of Mortal Kombat 1. He mentioned his personal connection to the franchise, having grown up playing Mortal Kombat on the SNES. Edwards also mentioned that he is collaborating with a talented team of composers and encouraged players to listen to his music at the Cage Mansion arena.
Casey Edwards has an impressive portfolio, having created music for various productions. Notable works include The Division: Agent Origins, Killer Instinct, and Devil May Cry 5, including its Special Edition. Additionally, Edwards has composed music for TV series and movie shorts such as Spider-Man: Cake Day, Zombie Bullfighter, and RocketJump: The Show. He has delivered memorable tracks to numerous games, with one of his most beloved songs being the theme of a character in Devil May Cry 5. With Edwards' proven track record, players can expect great things from his involvement in Mortal Kombat 1.
The intriguing storyline and mechanics of Mortal Kombat 1 are poised to captivate players. However, certain minor omissions, such as the absence of the Krypt feature, have dampened some of the positive reception this installment of the series has received. Nonetheless, the abundant selection of Kombatants and the inclusion of DLC characters that aim to introduce more crossover content will undoubtedly compensate for some of the lacking aspects in the game's roster and gameplay modes.
Mortal Kombat 1 will be available on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S starting September 19.
