The initial stages of the Baldur's Gate 3 campaign can pose challenges, especially for inexperienced players unfamiliar with the mechanics. When communication fails to diffuse tense situations, parties often resort to fighting for survival. While assembling a well-balanced team can alleviate some stress, the key to success early on lies in discovering and utilizing a reliable weapon.
The Sword of Justice stands as one of the finest greatswords obtainable during the early stages of Baldur's Gate 3. Not only does it deliver more powerful strikes compared to its more common counterparts, but it also bestows upon players the ability to invoke Tyr's Protection, an Abjuration spell that bolsters the user's Armor Class by +02. These attributes alone can carry players through Act One and a significant portion of Act Two. Below is a guide to acquiring this invaluable weapon.
Where to Get the Sword of Justice
The Sword of Justice is conveniently located near the Druids' grove, but players will face a difficult decision to obtain it. After passing the Blighted Village, they must navigate a broken bridge near the barn. As they proceed, they'll encounter an attacked caravan and numerous bloated hyenas on the road. By disregarding the animals and going under the bridge, players can reach the trading post, which has been transformed into a scene of massacre.
Within the post, they will meet Anders, a Paladin of Tyr who is in pursuit of a one-horned devil. He presents an offer to the player: defeat the devil, and in return, they will receive the Sword of Justice. The devil can be located by the stream below the trading post.
When confronted, the devil named Karlach will claim innocence, introducing the decision-making moment. If players choose to support Anders and eliminate Karlach, they will receive the sword as a reward. Conversely, if they choose to side with Karlach and kill Anders, they will have to face a Level 4 Paladin along with the other people in the outpost.
It is strongly recommended to side with Karlach, as killing Anders will also result in players obtaining the Sword of Justice. Additionally, defeating this imposter paladin will provide the opportunity to recruit Karlach into the player's party. Karlach, a formidable Zariel Tiefling, possesses both Barbarian skills and the Legacy of Avernus attacks. Notably, she is an excellent candidate to wield the Sword of Justice.
Paladins will not break their oaths if they decide to attack Anders after speaking with Karlach.
Baldur's Gate 3 is available now on PC, with a PS5 version coming soon.
