Unleashing Divine Beauty: Reinventing Vlaakith's Portrait in Baldur's Gate 3

Unleashing chaos or facing divine consequences? Delve into the intriguing choice of defacing Vlaakith's portrait in Baldur's Gate 3 Will players defy fate or succumb to the wrath of a goddess?

As players progress through the Mountain Pass in Baldur's Gate 3, they will eventually come across the Githyanki crèche within the Rosymorn Monastery. A group of warriors has set up camp here. Similar to other parts of the game, there are various things to explore and interact with in this area, and not all of them are as serious as the rest.

Beyond the stone corridors, which are guarded by Giths and trainees, Baldur's Gate 3 players will soon come across a captivating painting of the Undying Queen Vlaakith herself. The portrait emits a sense of seriousness and authority, yet it sparks a natural curiosity within players, posing the question: is it acceptable to deface this artwork?

Should You Draw On Vlaakith's Portrait?

Despite committing what can be considered sacrilege, there don't appear to be any significant consequences for drawing on Vlaakith's portrait. If players succeed in a DC 16 Dexterity check, their chosen character will boldly doodle on the sacred image of the Undying Queen. The added elements of protruding horns, a mischievous mustache, a well-groomed goatee, and a sophisticated monocle do bring new vitality to the painting, but not everyone will appreciate it.

At some point, one of the young Githyanki warriors inside the base will approach and discover the vandalism on the painting. They will panic and attempt to remove the artistic additions before the inquisitor becomes aware.

If Lae'zel is present in the party, she will express anger and disappointment towards the player for their actions, describing them as wretched and immature. However, it appears that her opinion does not affect her overall relationship with the player, as the approval/disapproval icon in the upper-left corner of the screen remains unchanged. It seems that the other companions also do not have any specific reactions or dialogue in relation to this event.

Despite this, there do not appear to be any significant consequences if players choose to deface Vlaakith's painting. The party can still proceed with the rest of the story in the Mountain Pass without any hindrance by entering the commander's chamber and eventually reaching the gith inquisitor located deeper within the monastery.

Completing the Mountain Pass story is strongly advised as players can acquire the Blood of Lathander, a renowned mace ideal for clerics. Though it entails a few easily overlooked steps, players should be able to obtain it after solving the Rosymorn Monastery stained glass puzzle and confronting the inquisitor. Baldur's Gate 3 is currently accessible on PC, and a PS5 version will be released in the near future.
