Bungie has received praise from many Destiny 2 players for an important change to exotic catalysts, making them easier to unlock during Season of the Witch. As a live service game, Destiny 2 offers a vast array of content for players to explore, including weekly ritual activities, seasonal content, and the pursuit of top-tier armor and weapons. The game also includes rare items, like Raid exotics and catalysts, which have previously required a combination of random drops and specific prerequisites before they can be utilized.
While some exotic catalysts in Destiny 2 are relatively straightforward to find and unlock, many have proven to be incredibly time-consuming and repetitive due to their grind-heavy requirements or specific actions players must take. Weapons such as Leviathan's Breath, Rat King, and Polaris Lance have become known as particularly arduous challenges within the community. Eriana's Vow and Ruinous Effigy, once relatively easier to obtain during their respective seasons, have also become more difficult due to changes in gameplay mechanics that previously expedited the process. Fortunately, Bungie has addressed these concerns and rectified the catalyst grind during Season of the Witch.
After Season 22 launched earlier this week, Destiny 2 fans were pleasantly surprised to find that Catalysts were now more accessible. Some players discovered that previously locked catalysts were now ready to be completed, while others noticed that the requirements for hard-to-obtain ones had become easier. The Destiny subReddit was filled with pleased fans who thanked Bungie for making the struggle to acquire these catalysts either complete or less challenging.
In the Season of the Witch patch notes, Bungie specifically mentioned that they had reworked several difficult Destiny 2 catalyst objectives in order to streamline the unlocking process. Numerous older exotics were adjusted, such as reducing the total kill requirements for weapons like Fighting Lion, Leviathan's Breath, Eriana's Vow, Legend of Acrius, Skyburner's Oath, and Ruinous Effigy. Rat King now progresses based on individual player usage instead of requiring a fireteam, and Graviton Lance, Sunshot, and D.A.R.C.I. have had their perk kill requirements reduced as well.
In addition to updating many legacy and older catalysts, Season of the Witch introduces a new one for the Ex Diris, an arc grenade launcher exotic with a Hive theme. This powerful weapon excels at crowd control, as it can spawn an enemy-seeking moth and automatically reload from reserves after a kill. However, players seeking to maximize its potential must complete the Grenade Logic quest and accumulate 400 kills with the weapon to unlock the catalyst.
Destiny 2 can be played on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
