A player of Baldur's Gate 3 has developed a mod that allows gamers to assume the role of a skeleton character, adding an entertaining twist to Larian Studios' latest game. Baldur's Gate 3 offers a variety of classes, each with their own distinct attributes and playstyle.
The game's classes are a fundamental part of the classic Dungeons and Dragons class system, featuring iconic archetypes from the RPG genre. Selecting a class in Baldur's Gate 3 determines physical characteristics, dialogue choices, and unique actions that the player can undertake. Additionally, the game presents a subclass system and a range of races for players to choose from. The choice of race in Baldur's Gate 3 influences the appearance, background, and how non-player characters perceive the character.
Nexus Mods user NellsRelo released the "Playable Skeletons" mod, introducing a new race option in Baldur's Gate 3. In the original game, Baldur's Gate, there were various distinct classes that greatly contributed to its success. However, skeletons were not officially recognized as a class in Baldur's Gate 3. NellsRelo's mod features a skeleton race with certain attributes. It possesses a base +1 Constitution, Darkvision, Immunity to Poison damage, and Vulnerability to Bludgeoning Damage. Moreover, the skeleton race possesses an extraordinary skill called Skeleton Finger, enabling it to pick locks using its bony finger once per short rest. While it may not reach the same level of intricacy as Larian's implementation, the Baldur's Gate 3 skeleton mod includes two subclasses. The Sturdy Skeleton subclass equips armor pieces on its body, gaining an additional +1 Constitution and +1 Charisma. On the other hand, the Dextrous Skeleton subclass consists of an unarmored skeleton with a +2 Dexterity bonus.

However, in contrast to the officially accessible classes in Baldur's Gate 3, the current issue is that clothing does not function properly on the skeleton, and the Skeleton Finger skill is defective. NellsRelo's mod has gained nearly 7,000 views on the Nexus Mods website and has been downloaded over 100 times. It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time the user has released the Playable Skeletons mod, as NellsRelo previously made it available during the early access phase of Baldur's Gate 3. Additionally, this is not the first instance where a mod has altered Larian Studios' RPG, as there was a modification that combined Baldur's Gate 3 with The Elder Scrolls, allowing players to play as races found in Bethesda's RPG series.
Now that Baldur's Gate 3 is finally available on PC, players have the opportunity to experience one of the highly anticipated RPGs of the year, alongside other notable titles such as Final Fantasy 16, Diablo 4, and Remnant 2. With its positive reception from both audiences and critics, and a vast amount of content to explore, it is expected that Baldur's Gate 3 will be one of the most discussed games of the year.
Baldur's Gate 3 is out now on PC and will come out on September 6 for PS5. An Xbox version is in development.
